Yeah, I would say this is their best record to date. What Mirrors Might Reflect has been stuck in my head all morning.
This is fantastic and one of my favorites of the year. I’m not huge into metalcore, but this band just does it for me. Looking forward to the tour with SYSC.
It’s a very cool track. Always enjoyed when Melodic Hardcore or Metalcore bands did something intentional with an outro instead of just being another track, or clip. They also crushed this with Soil on TDBHAH. Enjoyed the use of clean vocals being tasteful and not forced/overdone. Genuinely felt Jesse and Alex’s song composition overall took a huge leap forward, and Brendan hitting some shrill high note deliveries in his screaming was fun. Specifically when he does the “A Requiem, a sermon spoken in tongues” line. Also do I even need to talk about Kyle’s ability to play drums. The dude got famous on YouTube playing Rock Band drums for a reason.
Just finished a full attention listen and damn. It always takes me a few listens to fully get into a new counterparts album, but I was struggling with this one. I get it now though. This thing sounds amazing first of all. Every instrument sounds ferocious and there are tons of studio tricks that really caught my ear. The vocals and lyrics hit as always. This thing is bleak in the best way. “A Mass Grave of Saints” is a perfect closer and this is easily one of the bands best albums.
Don’t think Counterparts and bands in a similar vein get much attention/talk on here. Even in the metal thread I feel the focus stays more mainline with a few black metal and old metal fans sprinkled. It has been my most streamed album this month. Jesse has a finger for Melodic Hardcore parts that no one else really gets atm.
Artwork is very 2000’s I love it. Reminds me of Mis Sigs, Saints Never Surrender, Shai Hulud etc etc.
the tweets got deleted but someone was making some playful jabs about his looks that went entirely too far
