The Caverns show was absolutely incredible, but it was a true bummer that Bryan was sick and couldn't play. The only other thing I would have wished for was a longer set list, even if it was just Aaron. I really hope they release the footage somewhere after the stream as well, my phone videos don't do it justice. Closing with Erase was just the best.
It was so special getting this album released the 5 year anniversary for my wife and I. We had You Have My Attention played at our wedding so it was great surprising her with the new version. Really enjoyed watching the replay of the concert too, great quality in a really cool setting
Will be listening to this tonight! Interesting to read all the feedback but excited to listen for the first time
Agreed! I traveled from Minnesota for the show — what an awesome night and venue. Although I was expecting more songs. DM me if you’d like a high-quality video from the show.
Just did a discography run. Still about the most consistent discography out there. One big change for me this time was realizing In Motion is way better than I already gave it credit for. Went in thinking it was my "least" favorite, now I think it might be #4 or #3.
personally, i think every album they've released (barring Revolving Doors) is better than their last. so favorite is obviously Blushing, and BMT (while still a fantastic album) is ranked at the bottom.
I think most days I could say the same! Then eventually whenever I come back to ESR or YAMS I can't really tell anymore ;d If I can take Ixora + Twin into the account, then it's my favorite thing ever, but it's not fair to other single albums ;d
Eat, Sleep, Repeat > Ixora > You Are My Sunshine > In Motion > Blushing > Beneath Medicine Tree One of my favourite discographies ever.
Ixora > ESR > YAMS > BMT > IM > Blushing They have such a strong discography, that run of ESR/YAMS/Ixora is incredible. I wanted to like Blushing so much but just couldn't get into it, but it certainly isn't a bad album. It hurts ranking IM that low since You Have My Attention is a top 3 Copeland song for me but that just shows how strong all their albums are
Ixora > YAMS > Blushing > ESR > IM > BMT I think this would be way different if I had listened to this band when I was a teen, but I got into them when Ixora came out. Ixora’s a top 10 of all time for me.
What's even more amazing about Ixora is that it came out after they broke up. They could have ended things perfectly with YAMS and yet Ixora seamlessly picked up where they left off and exceeded all expectations. I agree it depends on when you got into the band. BMT will always get a ranking bump because I can't separate the nostalgia factor
YAMS/ IXORA / ESR can all make a case for my personal top 10 on any given day and likely includes 2 of the 3
Ixora > YAMS > In Motion? > ESR > Blushing > Beneath Medicine Tree But who am I kidding, they're all great.
I feel weird ranking Copeland records because I enjoy each of them for very different reasons. Plus, Beneath Medicine Tree and In Motion sound borderline like an entirely different band than every record after so I feel like I’m ranking more a genre preference than anything with the early albums. But if I had to it would probably be: Ixora > Blushing > You Are My Sunshine > Eat, Sleep, Repeat > Beneath Medicine Tree > In Motion. I don’t know where I’d put Ixora Twin or Revolving Doors though. But I love each of their records and even though In Motion is at the bottom, I’d still call it at least 9/10 album.
I think the sonic evolution is significant but they still sound like the same band for sure. They've done such a great job at always changing up their sound while still keeping their songwriting uniquely Copeland.
Agreed, BMT/IM still sound like Copeland even though the sound has changed. With that said, my only (minor) complaint with the Revolving Doors album is that I wished it had more songs from those first two albums. I'd love hearing what songs like When Paula Sparks or Love is a Fast Song would have sounded like
I have ESR head and shoulders above In Motion, Ixora, and Blushing, BMT slightly below those 3, and YAMS at the bottom, though not far off. I love it when I listen to it, I just never really connected with it and it doesn't draw me back like the others do.
Overall I definitely enjoy Revolving Doors, but some versions work better than others. I think the biggest standouts for me are Coffee, which is more amazing than I realized, Fire Eater and Should You Return
I only was not sold on the cowboy sounding guitar part in that version of Should You Return, but it's still really good, can't say I won't get used to it in a good way for sure.
