Here’s a little blast from the past with that classic absolute punk maroon. This was right after they announced their return and I think all the members of the band did an ama on ap. I was so excited about this answer I just had to save it lol. glad they’ve kept with it.
On the the topic of copeland-adjacent bands, have there been any recent releases that kinda fit the ambient soft indie rock genre? I feel like all the ones that typically get mentioned are all pretty old at this point. (That being said, y’all might like Valise and Joshua Michael Robinson’s records, Aaron produced both)
Good question that I'm also curious about. I guess it could be argued these are different vibes, but bands like Author, Happy Body Slow Brain (+ Rare Futures), and Polyenso come to mind.
I love JMR too! and lots of things that Aaron has produced, Zealyn has had my fav pop EP in years. I'll gladly lurk for some recommendations, today I'm a bit too tired to search through my library ;'( but definitely check out "Dimly Lit" by From Indian Lakes or "Found In The Smokes" by Joe Vann (FIL solo), that's from the top of my head. EDIT: ok, I did go through some of my playlists in the end ;c ;c it's vastly different, but just for the vibe you can check out: Ethan Gruska (Phoebe Bridger's producer with amazing solo stuff), Polyenso (especially "Pure In The Plastic"), newest Lydia (like some of "I Was Some Else" LP or "Solo"), Japanese Breakfast, Mini Trees, Anays (she plays live with La Dispute and Anthony Green), maybe some of the Local Natives more mellow tunes (or ok (!) a side-project Jaws of Love would be a great fit). Brahny, Jade or Skinshape for some r&b indie stuff. "Minimum" by Vacationer and their LP "Mindset" for some bliss! Well, I think that could constitute a great full playlist I'd really vibe to hahh.
oh Author is actually a perfect idea! Also seeing as Aaron has produced their debut EP, which had Brennan of Polyenso on guest vocals - all amazing stuff! and I do love HBSB, everything Matt Fazzi touches! Crazily talented!
really nice to finally be able to spend some real time with these songs now the whole thing is out. I still can't get enough of When You're Smiling My Way, just makes me feel things.
I waited for both EPs and I’ve really enjoyed listening to them back to back as a full length. Anyone know who the guest vocals are on the new tracks? Felt I heard someone different.
Where do you hear it? I think it's all him, but heavily processed. I remember on one of the older tunes people asked if it was JMR singing a verse, and Aaron responded it was just him but doubled with [I guess some pitch shifters etc.]
Yeah, I was totally wrong. It was my first listen and I had good headphones on and it sounded lower than his usual vocals but on subsequent listens I no longer hear it! Just the vocal effects!
Listening to ESR today for the first time in ages, and it immediately transported me back to college in like, 2006. So many memories associated with this album.
That album is very special. First listened to it when I fell in love for the first time, so it always warms my heart.
Wake up, dead thread. Here's some old-old-school Copeland for ya! (more to come soon) Deets: This six-track split was released by Theory 8 Records in 2001. Chad from Theory 8 sent a copy to Chad at Militia Group and bing-bang-boom, Copeland was signed.
