Yeah, I think the technical aspects of their music have only improved but I prefer YAMS' texture and atmosphere over all the other records. Always thought it would be cool to hear ESR with renewed production.
YAMS Ixora In Motion Blushing ESR BMT Those top two duked it out for years, but I’m pretty comfortable with YAMS taking it now. Ixora gives me the most intense nostalgia though for sure.
Really surprises me how Beneath Medicine Tree is thought of on here - Do people think it's aged badly or something? When Paula Sparks is still my favourite Copeland song I'd agree with the general consensus that their discography is incredibly consistent though ESR BMT Ixora YAMS Blushing In Motion
BMT is fantastic I just think it's not quite as interesting or polished as everything that came after. When Paula Sparks is a favourite for a lot of people but that and Walking Downtown are two of my least favourite Copeland songs and hold it back for me. California is one of my top 10 though.
I'd say nobody thought BMT "aged badly", from what I see people still love it or (like me) - enjoy it but mostly due the nostalgia factor it brings. Still, it could come out this year and I'd be happy to listen to it, but I wouldn't count on it sticking with any outside-listeners.
BMT is probably my least favorite - I love it for the nostalgia factor but don't think it'd grab me as much as their later work. YAMS Ixora ESR Blushing IM BMT I sometimes swap YAMS / Ixora as their both top tier albums but the rest is pretty firmly behind though I am a sucker for ESR (and a kind word)
BMT was my first exposure to them back when it was their only record, and I disliked it so much that it took me the better part of a decade to give them another shot haha. I’ll accept that I was being a stubborn kid about the band, but all these years later and I still don’t like the record. Coffee is a diamond in the rough though
Ixora YAMS ESR Blushing BMT In Motion Love them all though. BMT is a hell of a debut and holds a special place for me.
I can think of very few artists from their scene and era releasing music back then that could be released today and hold up the way Copeland would.
idk. probably nostalgia yeah. I love shit like Take Care and She Changes Her Mind. And When Paula Sparks is like one of my favorite songs ever. The whole thing takes me right back to a better place more than the other albums Music is tied to memory, what can I say
Jumped on the Copeland train when SRC Vinyl reissued ESR in 2013 and I saw the hype around it. Loved it, thought it was incredible. For some reason though I never thought to listen to the rest of their catalogue. Fast forward to April fools day 2014 and they announced Ixora which I promptly preordered (along with a ton of other surprised people). Amidst singles being released, SRC reissues YAMS on vinyl so I pick that up as well. Mind blown, love it even more than ESR. Why have I been sleeping on Copeland‘a catalogue for so long? Yada yada yada YAMS Ixora ESR IM Blushing BMT Really enjoy them all though. 2 and 3 could switch on any given day. Ixora holds big emotional appeal to me and listened to it all the time during the time I moved to another state for a girl and got engaged. Thanks for coming to my talk.
I can't think of another band with six albums under their belt that has a stronger "weakest" record than Copeland. I'd say BMT is their weakest album and it's still so full of heart. I know Ixora is my number one, but I don't know if I'd put ESR, YAMS, or Blushing at #2. They're all amazing.
Not Copeland, but I’ve been revisiting Deas Vail a lot lately and man. This album ages amazingly well. This was the record that eventually got me into Copeland and Mew and it still holds up against the best of them.
I love Deas Vail so much, they have such a cool sound. I actually got into them because someone compared their singer to Aaron. I wish they were still around.
TBF that album is good-great, and then they depreciated in quality pretty fast. The usual trajectory, for bands that aren't Copeland
