Wife update: likes it better after listening through headphones. Doesn’t like the low slowed down vocal stuff near the end
Listened again and the vocal melody in the chorus still doesn’t feel complete to me, but that’s okay. This feels like a song that would fit in the middle of an album amidst much weirder shit (which i hope is the case). The production is absolutely flawless and the atmosphere just entirely envelops you. Looking forward for more.
For those of you who didn’t hear the two special songs they gave to VIP fans at the tour a couple years back...
What I love most about this song is the different feelings I get from it. I hear an evolution of Ixora. The beginning vocals/lyrics sounds like a mix between "When you thought you'd never stand out" & "Erase". Then the chorus has a huge Eat, Sleep, Repeat vibe to it. The bridge (guitar especially) reminds me of You Are My Sunshine. The ending reminds me a little bit of "Disjointed". The production is fantastic as well. I just can't get enough Copeland in my life.
This does feel like the perfect blend of all their best work. It did throw me off a little bit on the first listen because it is still a bit jarring (not in a bad way) but it works. It really confused me when the voice started asking "are you awake?" I took out my headphones and honestly thought my wife woke up and was talking to me lol
