I guess "obscure" would have been a better adjective than "weak". They both get very little attention considering how acclaimed both albums are.
Beneath Medicine Tree > Ixora/Eat Sleep Repeat/YAMS > In Motion Damn, those middle three are hard. And I actually only really like a few songs on In Motion. Not my favorite Copeland sound.
I love Ixora, but I've had it long enough to safely say I don't love it like the others. I'd only place BMT below it overall honestly
You could cut Lavender and I think Ixora would actually flow better too. And, if I had it my way, I'd throw Like I Want You in there somewhere.
Ixora is their best offering and it isn't even close. Really special record.. I still remember getting that email earlier than expected and being so happy
Like I Want You definitely felt like a B-side to me. Still good, but I get why they left it off. I think Lavender is a nice curve ball to throw in even if it's not my favorite on the album. That piano and the drone-y synths really do help that song stand out now that I listen again. Also, because ranking things: Ixora >> ESR > You Are My Sunshine >>>> In Motion = Beneath Medicine Tree I definitely always liked YAMS more than ESR, but in the last couple years I've found ESR to be both more diverse and well-rounded as an album.
Ixora easily takes the cake for me, but it was also the album I started with for this band. I love YAMS too though. I've still only listened to the other three each once, but I really enjoyed all of them. Great band.
You're probably right, I'm not sure I could put Like I Want You anywhere into the track listing and it would feel natural, but it's an amazing song.
I probably just need to listen to it more. It kind of kills the resolution that In Her Arms You Will Never Starve brings as a closer when it comes right after so I don't listen to it often.
Oh, I definitely agree. I'd have to experiment with other places to put it, but I really am also hesitant to change anything about the flow.
Yeah. If I ruined the perfect momentum of Ixora I think I'd be...b-side myself... And just like that, it's time for bed.
God damn Ixora is so good. I want a new album from this band so badly I can't believe it. Maybe even more than I did when they were broken up, haha.
It's my least favourite song out of them all but I still think it's lovely so I still want to listen to it and I think it works very well there, way better than after the closer at least.
Can't imagine cutting Lavender. That last minute and a half is bliss. Personally, I've never been a big fan of Chiromancer, and I much prefer the combined version of Ordinary.
Ixora is perfect. On first listen, I was pretty underwhelmed, but after like the third or fourth go-round, it clicked for me. And then I heard the combined version. WOW. lavender is probably my least favorite, but I still wouldn't cut it!
