Love all their albums for different reasons, but In Motion for me is less about being a consistent album and more about being a collection of fantastic songs
*in sing-songy voice* Do I see some raaaaaaankiiiiiiiiiinnnngs??? Ixora Eat, Sleep Repeat You Are My Sunshine Beneath Medicine Tree In Motion And all of them are great.
I’ll play... 1. ESR - I would’ve loved to hear more of this style from them. A full band sound, very little electronic stuff, very natural sounding vocals. I wonder what the follow-up to ESR would’ve sounded like had the Columbia records drama never happened. 2. Ixora - I think this record has my favorite lyrics. They’re more mature. Not just about heartbreak and relationship problems but more complex emotional issues that I can relate to. 3. YAMS - My favorite memory is the hijacking of Fall Out Boy’s marketing campaign. This record makes me sad because they broke up due to underwhelming album sales. There’s not a skippable track on here apart from the closer being super long. 4. IM - This was the time when PureVolume was huge in the scene. They debuted one new song each week in the month leading up to release. This is really a great pop rock record, aside from “Kite”. 5. BMT - Nostalgic. But too sappy for my taste now. I listen to this only about once a year.
This sounds so familiar but I can't remember exactly what happened here. Refresh my memory? Did they like set up a website that seemed like FOB teasing but was really about Copeland or something?
It’s explained here pretty well... Fall Out Boy's 'Citizens For Our Betterment' Viral Campaign Hijacked By Florida Rockers Copeland I was friends with Aaron on MySpace at the time. It was probably 3-4 days before the viral campaign began. I had heard from someone on the Copeland message board that the band was planning something. So I messaged Aaron, and asked if a new record was being released soon. All he sent me was a link to that “CitizensFourOurBetterment” site which redirected me to “runrightbacktothestart.com”. The site was pretty fancy and interactive. I remember different graphics with lyrics to songs from YAMS. I tried to click on everything to make sure that I wasn’t missing an announcement, but obviously I didn’t reach the link to the album announcement. Or maybe that page hadn’t been built yet. So I post the link to the Copeland thread on AbsolutePunk forum. It was a fun time in that thread with everyone looking for clues. Eventually, there was a link to AbsolutePunk, but the “L” was a “1” and the page looked identical to the real AP home page. When you scrolled down, you found a news headline to the real YAMS announcement. I’m pretty sure Jason has a memory of this and was involved in that fake page at least.
It’s mediocre and doesn’t fit into the flow of In Motion. It’s fine, I don’t hate it but it’s clearly the weak song on the record.
I think it's much better than mediocre or fine and not a weak song at all. I love the lyrics and the melody, and at this point it's probably the primary song that pops into my head and gets me to go back to listen to IM because it's so unique.
