yeeeeeeah Copeland really sticks out on that cruise lineup. Happy for them and hope they are getting a sweet payday though.
You know what, that's cool as hell. Good for them. Very unique thing to be a part of. Really hope someone uploads that set; that'd be a sight to see I think. Even just for whatever Aaron rambles about in the song breaks.
I saw Mom Jeans and Hot Mulligan together for Sad Summer Fest in 2023. I think it was about $80 for pit. The sound was pretty bad for Mom Jeans but was fixed for Hot Mulligan. It was in Jacksonville. First time seeing both bands.
I knew I had a screenshot of this old AP.net chat stored away in an obscure folder. Anyway, I finally found it and felt like sharing, lol.
For what it’s worth I legit posted screenshots from them in the studio 2 years ago. So idk what kind of a timeline we are looking at, but promising nonetheless
Aaron Marsh from Copeland — 100 Words Or Less: The Podcast — Overcast Aaron on 100 Words Or Less this week. He says the new album is about 60% done. They've been working on it since 2020 but it took a backseat to the album anniversary tours, orchestra show, and stuff like that.
at least we have confirmation that theyre actually working on Copeland music. stoked to hear that. not stoked that it might be another couple years before we hear it
Hype af, and as much as I want them to take their time the idea of waiting another 2/3/4 years kills me inside. Patience is not my strong suit, but thus far Copeland has never missed. Knowing they have 5 years of time into it already, this is gonna be a monster when we get it. Ixora and Blushing will have worthy company.
I am specifically bumping this thread to recommend that anyone who is a fan to listen to this pod - Aaron talks about all kind of stuff and just seems to be in a good mood all throughout it, it's definitely worth your time. He makes a lot of great points about creating art and how he views the process, and trying to maintain that balance of embracing their older music while also pushing himself to still do it even better next time. He also casually mentions that he considers Ixora to be their crown jewel, and as much as I love the entire discography, I'm pretty inclined to agree with him there.
Nice! Thanks for the rec. It's a coin flip between Ixora and YAMS for me, both perfect in different ways. Such a special band.
I think that run from Eat, Sleep, Repeat to Ixora is so brilliant and all three feel like unique perfections of their sound.
Although I had purchased all their previous albums, I’d say Ixora is when Copeland clicked for me. I think that and Blushing are another level, but would agree with Aaron if he thinks Ixora is the pinnacle.
I listened to about 80% of it and it was great. I don't know if I've ever gotten to hear as much from Aaron directly, Copeland was never a 'press heavy' band at any point to my recollection. I understand what he means, seeing Ixora as a high water mark for them. I think it benefited from all the time inbetween it and YAMS. The time and care they took to make it. Going as far as to make the 'Twin' versions and the 'Sync'd' version. Its why the time they've taken on this next record has me very hopeful. A lot of bands have survived long enough to disappoint, but Copeland isn't one of them.
I think Ixora is great because it somehow accomplishes feeling like both a victory lap celebrating and refining the legacy of the band while also being a huge step forward in experimentation. It both sounds like a “copeland record”, but it also doesn’t sound like any of their previous works. When was the last time we got stripped back acoustic guitars on a Copeland record before that? And we also get it on an album with “Like a Lie” hinting at the kinda RnB’ish vibe Blushing takes. I don’t know if you can really do better than that for a post-hiatus album.
