Every Silence is absolutely one of their best songs

I still can't get over how good Lay Here is, and I've been listening to it since Blushing came out. :P The entire album is amazing, but the only missteps I can really quantify are:
-Night Figures is a track where I can see what they were going for, but it seems like they didn't quite get there. Something about the vocal distortions / atmosphere of the song didn't reach that next level that I think they were shooting for. Which is a shame. While it's still a good track, I can hear the potential for what could have been.

-Waltz on Water is about 30 seconds to a minute too short. This was a closer where there should have been another refrain or instrumental section where they really threw the kitchen sink at it and closed the album proper. Big crescendo, big sendoff. It almost seems a disservice to how good the rest of the tracks are for the closer to fall a little flat, but I'm also just biased in favor of big album closers.

Other than that though, man. Blushing is almost too much to take in at times. But boy do I love it.

There was a stream on youtube of both versions layered on top of each other. Really cool to see how both fit together and make the songs fuller. I would suggest checking it out. I asked UnoriginalVinyl if they would possibly work with the band to press that combined version for the anniversary, but I guess it didn't happen...

    EDIT:
Here it is. This is a link to the playlist

yeah whoever joined that in Audacity really fucked up the syncing.

i will say that despite how much i love the combined version, i don't think it would translate over to vinyl well. both albums were designed to be played at the same time, sure, but there are too many moving parts to the experience that occasionally end up buried or slightly distorted in a professional stereo mix.

i think Aaron has been averse to releasing the combined version in stereo form because he specifically intended that that version to be quadrophonic. many people aren't gonna have a quadrophonic setup for their turntable, and the hassle of playing both versions on two separate stereo setups facing either side of your head isn't worth it. he said he's toyed with potentially doing a 5.1 mix on Blu-ray or DVD audio, and there's a possibility the combined version might fare well in a Dolby Atmos mix, but i fear how it might translate to a binaural Atmos mix for streaming, lol. i've tried mixing the two stereo tracks to quadrophonic FLAC files, but haven't got it to work just yet.

i gotcha, haha. i've had a combined stereo mix of my own for years (i have the twin CD bundle they sold back in 2014). glad others can hear it better synced up though!

I’ll be the asshole to say it but the Twin versions idea was a total miss IMO. The twin version is clearly inferior to the original and it’s a pain in the ass to sync the two versions—it’s no wonder why so few have ever done it. I suppose it’s a cool idea on paper but the execution did not pan out.

I have to agree. I have listened to the two versions synced and I didn't feel that it added to the listening experience. I think part of what makes Ixora so great is how minimalistic and spacious it feels. The Twin side just felt like adding unnecessary layers for the sake of layers

    D'oh! Prestigious

I think it was an idea exciting and fresh enough, as well as executed just right for the few people that actually went out of their way to get it into a quadrophonic experience. I've messed with that once only, putting Twin slightly quieter behind my back and it was cool (or I just felt something cool from the whole ordeal, whatever). And I did listen to both of them seperately A LOT of times

    this is all there is

This is not directed specifically at the opener in Nashville tonight, more of just a general sentiment, but lord I hate when the full billing of a show is not actually listed on the tour flyers, ticket pages, etc, and I only find out there is another opener when I go to the venue page to find out what time doors are. At least the show starts at 7, I guess, but I was really hoping for a longer opening set from TDS, not for a rando country rock whatever to open the show.

I'm old but I also still have that "see all the bands" mentality for shows and really struggle with "just go late" - anyway, good morning everyone, excited to see In Motion.

I've heard from someone that the Kite they're playing on this tour is different from the album version and is more akin to their newer sound.

this is true and it still doesn’t make that song good.

they were good last night. Made a lot of like “you guys remember hot topic?” And “you still fit in your girl jeans?” Jokes. Only played the record, which is good but was hoping for 1-2 more. Opened with hold nothing back and ends with love to sing. Felt most like going through the motions (no pun intended) I may have ever seen them.

Was also there last night, and loved the new live arrangement of Kite. I hope they release it in some form, or at least a high quality live video turns up because I'd like to hear it again.

Also very surprised from you saying it seemed like going through the motions, I thought they looked and sounded like they were having a lot more fun than the last few times I've seen them and it was great to hear a few songs I've never seen live. I'm just so happy to see them with 5 members and a piano on stage again, haven't seen Aaron play piano since like 2019.

I love this band and they're still killing it, highly recommend anyone interested to catch this show and I hope they're feeling great about being active again.

I guess I always have felt like Aaron doesn’t want to be there. I know he’s said in the past that he hates touring. I definitely don’t think it was bad and I did enjoy the full band as opposed to the no bass player on the BMT tour. I’ve seen this band at least 8 times so it just one of my top times.

i’ve been meaning to tell you

i remember on the now/then tour, he seemed really annoyed that the crowd wanted to hear the old stuff, he made a few comments about it. i was stoked to hear ixora/yams stuff, but the crowd in general definitely responded better to bmt/in motion, and he definitely resented that lol

Yeah minus the “give it up for the other bands/anberlin love” he gave, all the rest of the stage banter felt like he was trying to not say SUPER sarcastic things
