For me the only clear spot is BMT in last (and I adore it). The top 5 are perfect records and I couldn’t really argue with anyone making a case for any of them being at the top.

Now please Copeland give us a 7th album to update our rankings, we can’t keep ranking the same ones every 6 months!

BMT is a classic of the era that I feel like is one of those “if aliens can and wanted to know what 2003 emo/indie sounded like” records. It was also my intro the band so it ranks pretty high for that reason. But this is also one of those bands that I don’t think has a bad record so even when ranking I’m like “the last record is still better than 95% of bands”

IM was the first Copeland cd I bought. Got it at Sam Goody and played it every night on my portable cd player before bed for like a year when I was in high school. Holds a special place in my heart even if it isn't the one I go back to as often anymore.

nope. I grew up in Tampa/near Lakeland, so I’ve been with them from the start. But ESR is one of those albums where I heard it and was like “oh, other people feel like this in their head”

gun to my head, when you thought you’d never stand out is their best song. (in her arms you will never starve is a close second.)

I totally understand ESR being a favorite. I liked BMT and IM but ESR was where I really fell in love with them. I’ll put Ixora #1 but ESR is a close 1B

Love all the ESR love. Such a good album. Unrelated but thread worthy, I still think about the American apparel hoodie I had from them I got at the YAMS tour. Would kill for that again. Was black and had “Copeland” like 4 or 5 times on it.

I’m not sure if I would put ESR first, but to me it stands out as such a strange, unique album. It feels like its drenched in this weird melancholy where they have these unique chord progressions that blend and fluctuate between major and minor feels (Title track, Closer, by my side) and just some really weird unconventional songs (head, airplane, dorie, sucker). It’s a vibe that I don’t think I’ve really heard anywhere else, even in their discography.

Dorie is an absolutely incredible song

  19. ESR is my favorite. Such a unique record, and perfectly blends their more energetic early-career sound with what came after.

iirc, isn't there a version of that song that had a different intro with film dialogue, but the label made them remove it because the band couldn't get the rights to use the audio?

What you’re describing is what makes it timeless for me. Such a singular album. I remember where I was when I first heard it, the weeks and months after I discovered it, how I felt during that time, how its lyrics spoke to me. And how I can return to it, and it’s so displaced from everything else that it still transports me to its own little world.

I'm not sure but that sounds interesting!

really want a Dressed Up 2 with all the stuff that didn't make the first one, I know they've got more stuff like Erin in the vaults

someone on this site sent me an mp3 rip of Erin several years ago, and i'm forever grateful to them. would love to have it in FLAC if anyone has the CD!

ESR is one of the most depressed/depressing albums I've ever heard. Gotta be in the right mood for that one.
