When You Thought You'd Never Stand Out Brightest In Her Arms You Will Never Starve Should You Return I Can Make You Feel Young Again I guess would be my top five. Maybe. This band doesn't make it easy in the slightest to choose.
I decided to try and pick a favorite song from each album. Got harder with each album. I’m sorry to the people this will annoy. Brightest Choose the One Who Loves You More When You Thought You’d Never Stand Out On the Safest Ledge I Can Make You Feel Young Again Colorless
California Choose the One Who Loves You More The Last Time He Saw Dorie Good Morning Fire Eater Erase Night Figures
I just listened to these all in a row, and wow. Not only is it amazing to me that they’ve stayed consistent and gotten better over the years, but also that music that was released in the early/mid 2000s in that scene holds up so well.
There Cannot Be A Close Second Kite I'm A Sucker For A Kind Word Good Morning Fire Eater Ordinary Suddenly
One of my top three songs from Copeland. I love this song so much. The lyrics are beautiful and it's so different than anything else they've done.
Ordinary Chiromancer Should You Return (The first Copeland song I ever heard) California Love Is a Fast Song Chin Up I didn't realize I put six till now...... and idk which one to cut
There Cannot Be a Close Second Choose the One Who Loves You More I’m a Sucker for a Kind Word What Do I Know Erase Strange Flower (for now, still early to tell)
Top 5 is too hard when YAMS exists and now the new album... I also think I am an odd one out here because I didn't enjoy Ixora too much but I really like the new album. I don't understand the love for Erase but I think I just don't like the production style of Ixora and the use of falsetto (especially that song in particular) was rough and biting compared to all other Copeland albums. Yeah can't do a top 5 between YAMS and Blushing. I tried but it was too hard. I give up.
Not that anyone cares or that it's relevant to most people reading this, but the Chicago show is the night before I am driving down to St. Louis with my friends to see the League of Legends Spring Finals. Normally I would give up one for the other, but in this instance I feel it would be a crime against my soul to miss this show. The last time I saw Copeland was shortly before they broke up for the first time, when none of us knew they'd reunite. I bought tickets last night, and I will be attending this amazing show at the Bottom Lounge, even if I have to do a 6 hour drive the next morning. It's going to be a weekend full of things that matter to me!
I have a long drive today, and purposefully made sure I got on the road in time to have a full hour of darkness to listen to this with a cup of coffee. I’m so glad I followed through with this plan. This album is perfect. EDIT: I should mention there’s been a light, steady drizzle of rain all morning.
So the first Copeland song I ever heard was Sleep and I thought he was singing, “Will I wake to find you eating by my bedside? Will I wake to find you eating by my side?” I actually thought it was a gorgeously mundane picture of a close relationship where they were just always together. Hahaha.
Episode of stereo confidential on blushing is up, featuring @Jason Tate . Hopefully this is better than the others haha
Still working my way through the discog, 4-5 listens per album before moving on. How is EVERY single song good? I'm finally pretty familiar with In Motion, an album I initially didn't like nearly as much as BMT - now I'm enjoying it just as much. Can't wait to get into ESR, gonna give In Motion a couple more spins though.
