haha, yea that was one of the ones I thought was wrong but wasn't 100 percent sure. thanks for sharing.
They keep referencing Fall Out Boy on an episode about Ixora. No wonder they think "Have I Always Loved you" is boring.
I remember listening to their episode on Ixora back when it came out, and them talking about how boring I Can Make You Feel Young Again was and how it sounded like they half wrote it, abandoned it and just threw it on the record because they had to...
lol the climaxes on that song are unreal, the half time part with the infectious guitar lead, the strings, the synths, the drums... great song! Sometimes I think my ears hear different things than other people haha. I get having different tastes but that song is so layered, I just don't get it.
Andrew Bowser. He was in the "Not So Tough Found Out" video and he was in another movie that Copeland did music for where he was an inventor. He's an actor and works for Nerdest.
At this point it remains my favorite Copeland song. 1:35-2:10 (between the chorus and second verse) is my favorite part of my favorite Copeland song, and one of the most intoxicating stretches of music I’ve ever heard.
there were a lot of people coming in to the Ixora thread back in the day calling it boring. idk i get that it's not for everyone but I really think that this is one of the best bands this scene has produced. I also think that Ixora in particular (and this one too) has a sound that to me would make sense breaking out into a bigger indie world and I think with the right push it could have. they're better at this sound than a lot of the big indie bands occupying similar spaces. now im rambling
I think each of their last 4 records has a song in contention for my favorite: When You Thought You'd Never Stand Out Should You Return Erase Colorless
Pretty sure my take now is that each record is better than the last, but the gaps close up more and more with each passing album
On the YAMS episode last week they tried to talk about States but the first guy got the name wrong and said they were called Stars. They just ran with it and made a bunch of comments over the next 5 minutes or so about how dumb it was to name the band Stars since there is already the more established Canadian band of the same name. They finally looked it up after a while and got it right but like...at least do the bare minimum research before you start commenting on something?
Ixora was my first Copeland album so I’ve been interspersing my blushing listens this week with YAMS. think I might’ve appreciated it more during its time but I can see why people like it so much, it’s really good. Bands really got a knack for writing elegant sounding music.
