Thanks for the extra Instragam tags, @teebs41. Two members of the band have acknowledged me and now I have more internet points for my pretty vinyl picture.
Half of this album is the best music I've heard in ages. The other half I'm kinda indifferent to but I'm hoping it'll click.
I admit I don't love every second of this (Suddenly's hook is kinda flat to me) but i think I love 97% of it
The magic is fading for some it appears. I'm on listen 30 and I keep loving it more and more :)! Very happy with what came out of these sessions.
I'm still loving it, but there are some moments I want the vocal melodies to pop more like they do in Night Figures, Lay Here, Strange Flower, and Waltz on Water.
too soon for me to really know. I think this album challenges me a bit more and is a bit darker which tonally leans into my taste more, but Ixora is more of a rock record which instrumentally is more what I'm usually into. either way, I know I love both
Suddenly stands out to me the least on its own, but in the album context it is so perfect. It feels like a tension builder leading into Night Figures which is the most heavy, emotional track on the album for me. Also, that sax.
That "suddenly you're not a smile on a screen" line is very strange, but I think I like it. It catches me off guard every time.
I think my favorite is either As Above, So Alone, Night Figures, or Waltz on Water. Skywriter gives me heavy illuminate-era Lydia vibes.
Waltz on water has grown on me the most, the lyrics and just the overall feel of the song is awesome.
Only issue with waltz on water is the ending. I want it to just go on and on indefinitely. First 10 seconds of night figures I also want to go on and on indefinitely. Also compared to Ixora I think this is more consistent and cohesive but Disjointed and Erase are still pretty easily my favorite 2 songs across either album. I also need to listen to Blushing in its entirety. If I try to pick out a song or two to listen to it feels weird haha and I’m usually pretty good at detaching songs from the rest.
I guess paired with the image of a dried riverbed immediately after, i dig it. Feels very "Black Mirror".
They say that love is for the young, well I'm getting older I brushed past your lips, I'm barely sober How could it be so? The world could stop spinning and I, I wouldn't know You're crazy, w'ell just turn around and carry on But no one has ever seen my soul unfettered the way you are I'll be tangled here forevermore like fuck man
