Oh shit I forgot I ordered this and just got the notification. Fingers crossed they actually swapped it for the pink variant!
My only complaint about the album is him singing “up” when “through” so beautifully completes that rhyme scheme. I’m just going to keep choosing to hear that and no one can stop me.
It took me 1.5 full listens and 1 (one) beer for me to preorder this, I tried my best to resist I promise.
I had a special time listening to this for the first time yesterday in between delivering Valentine's Day flowers to help out my florist wife. I like what I hear but I feel like this is an album you need to properly digest and give full attention to before throwing out opinions. It's funny - this is only the third album I've bought this year and I had the same feeling about one of them (Maggie Rogers). There are so many layers and so many things going on you need to fully listen. It's not the same when treated as background music. Having said all of that... Night Figures is an early favourite (I'd only listened to Pope twice and no other song prior to the release yesterday so I'd never heard this one before).
Came home from work and my wife had the record on and had set up a nice candlelit dinner. Very special, and glad the album can be attatched to that memory now. We also played “have I always loved you” during our wedding ceremony so I’m starting to have a lot of special memory’s attatched to this band haha.
As I’ve made clear, I really fucking love every song on this album. But my standout tracks that I’m using to get my friends to give this a shot are Suddenly, Colorless and Strange Flower.
This was the perfect soundtrack for driving the hour from my girlfriends house through the snowy New England terrain this morning.
Yep! I have 2 friends who had never listened and they got sucked in. A few other friends I’m waiting to hear back. I’m shouting this album from the rooftops haha.
yes! keep pushing. this album hasn't gotten enough press at all. Needs as many foot shoulders as possible. Does Tooth and Nail not do big press cycles anymore? I would think this would be one of their biggest releases.
It doesn't seem like it. They've definitely fallen off the past few years, but shit... even Mae's new album got more press than this, and that album was mediocre at best. Blushing truly deserves all the publicity and recognition it can get. Anyone know how the shows have been selling?
Trying not to get too ahead of myself but I think this may be their best yet. This album is incredible Every track is incredible (other than Lay Here which is my immediate least favorite but I still enjoy). The outro of As Above, So Alone, horns in Suddenly, Colorless, Strange Flowers and Waltz on Water being immediate favorites haha
The last line she sings in Skywriter, "i think about you night and day i think im going crazy" followed by that bass-line.... god, so good
