best bet for those kinds of purchases is HDtracks. 7digital and ProStudioMasters occasionally have them too. Qobuz is in beta in the US right now, so they might have it too.
I purchase vinyl so I feel like I get the music at super high quality that way. But that’s good to know
Also I still think this is their best record but Pope sounds like a subpar ixora b side imo The lyrics are really bad at times although I always feel this way about them Why does the last 3/4 of night figures sound so bad and tinny compared to the rest of it?
Anyone know if they are planning to stream the album before Thursday? Ixora was available on Spotify the week leading up to its release. I can’t handle the anticipation. Especially after reading all of these comments!
the lyrics on this record are great they threaten to get too clumsily earnest a few times throughout but all of it pretty much works imo (and i tend to have my own issues with aaron's lyrics depending on the album) at the end of last year i fell into a very emotionally intense relationship that unraveled suddenly as if the whole thing were a dream. i don't know specifically what blushing is about but i feel like it applies to this experience perfectly
That’s more or less what I’m talking about, but they don’t always work for me. (Eg they’ll crown her the queen of broken hearts) If his voice weren’t so front and center the lines that I don’t love probably wouldn’t bother me as much Does anyone see what I mean about the production of night figures though? That really does confuse me
FYIW, on a recent podcast, Aaron said that lyrically his songs are less literal and that he looks for ways to mask the song meaning a bit. Also said that people have an idea of what he means and that they can make their own path through the lyrics and let the song reach them where they are.
the lyrics are so emotionally complicated (in a good way) - a relationship that felt like a dream is a perfect way to describe it
this whole album is like ASMR-core - I think about that a lot when I listen to it. I mean the way this thing is constructed and executed you aren't really listening to it but experiencing it with your whole body, all your senses
I mean take pope for example - it's a juxtaposition between the beginning of a relationship ("Did you dream about anything last night?" is something said during the beginning or good times of a relationship because you want to know everything about your partner) and the end of a relationship ("Hey, hey, are you awake? You should probably get up and get going. I don't want to be rushed") - when the women's voice appears it's jarring in a way because it's so comforting and it reminds you of that good place you were once at but ultimately it's a devastating reminder that it's over. also this is text I lifted from my review so don't get mad at me when it appears in it when it goes live this week haha
I like the mixing on this record a lot except for where the lyrics don’t work for me. That said, my absolute favorite thing about this record is how high the lay here synths are in the mix. And likewise, the keys on As Above So Alone. Mmmm.
I told my wife it would be nice to wake up to that (spoken part in Pope). Now she likes to mess with me and whisper in my ear with a creepy and over exaggerated voice: “I don’t want to be russssshhhhhhhhhed.”
