Stereo Confidential (formerly the Modern Vinyl Podcast) is doing a series on all of Copeland's discography. This is a nice run through of all their albums leading up to Blushing

this is really cool. I'm enjoying what I'm hearing so far. I'm most excited for ESR, YAMS, IXORA and Blushing obviously.

so I'm a bit disappointed so far.. they've trashed the first 3 albums pretty hard, almost saying the band doesn't really get good until You Are My Sunshine. Some of the content has been good but nothing that you can't just grab off of a good google search. Im sure once they start liking the albums more they will dig in more.

I mean, YAMS and Ixora are the only albums of theirs I’ve gone back to. I never thought the first three were bad, but I’ve never returned to them after first listen, or even a few listens in the case of ESR

I will hear no slander against early Copeland

i’ve been meaning to tell you

I have listened to parts of each episode so far and that was my main takeaway as well. Additionally, they go off on tangents that I do not find entertaining at all, and get pretty basic info wrong.

It doesn’t line up with my taste now as much as the new stuff does, but it’s some of the most sweet & innocent music in existence.

I can understand not liking the first two as much, but ESR is where they really hit on the sound that makes them so special. I can’t understand anyone not liking that one if they like the rest!

BTMT is the only one that doesn't hold up for me, with the exception of the song "Coffee," which I still love.

I think IM holds up pretty well though, especially when you compare it to all the other big emo/indie rock albums from around 2005, which feel more dated to me.

When you compare something like "Love is a Fast Song" to a lot of the lyrics their peers were doing at the time, you really hear and feel the difference in maturity.

I've said it before but, despite buying each of their albums, Ixora is the first one that I've properly loved. It's magical to me and holds a very special place in my heart. Nothing else has clicked with me overall.

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

I still think Eat Sleep Repeat is this band's best - how you gonna beat that Cover/Dorie/Sucker/When You Thought closing run? you're not is the answer

I like the first two records, but you don't miss much if you skip them. If you didn't get into those when you were younger you probably don't have a lot of love for them.

true as that may be, the podcast pretty much dismisses the first 3 albums.. idk, didn't sit well with me. I still love in motion a ton, and think that album is a killer pop rock record. Hooks galore. Eat, Sleep, repeat is my second favorite behind Ixora, that album meant a ton to me when it came out.

This... I understand the first two albums aren't the sound the band ended up with but there's still so much to like about them. Just because BMT and IM aren't YAMS doesn't mean you have to totally dismiss them.

I think I put ESR right behind Ixora too. I know YAMS was their big jump but I have a stronger connection to ESR

Yeah, they were pretty dismissive with ESR. So many great moments and windows to what was going to come next.

Also they complained on the last podcast that Blushing wasn't coming out on valentines day.. so i tweeted them a picture of the release date lol... sort of a dick move..

Why would you do a podcast series on band and then be negative or ignorant about the first few records...? What a waste of time.

It took about 2 minutes of them ripping on ESR for me to shut them off. Great record, one of Copeland's best.

You miss 40% of their discography (so far; 33% after Blushing drops) and 1 of their top 3 albums (In Motion).

As someone who didn’t get into their first three albums much til recently... I definitely feel like I was missing out. In Motion is so good.

In Motion is pop rock perfection.

Eat, Sleep, Repeat is one of the best albums ever created. These jokers can kiss off.

    This.

Also, am I the only one who has YAMS as their least favorite Copeland record? It's not bad by any means, and it's actually still very good, but it's definitely the one I go back to the least.

It's fourth for me, definitely above BMT, and it's still one of my favourite albums. It's got such a warm, cosy atmosphere.
