forgot that eve was actually just a b-side of a single that was on the album rather than just two off tracks, oops
Interesting that Kurt relates it to You fail Me. I had a similar vibe but it pulls from a few areas and incorporates some new stuff. A Single Tear is like a combo of Aimless Arrow and Last Light
Converge’s Jacob Bannon Untangles the Meaning of Every Song on His Band’s New Album, The Dusk in Us | Pitchfork
I saw an article somewhere (I think it was linked by The PRP) where Kurt said they have 4 songs leftover that may be better than anything on the album.
Obviously there was no chance this would be anything less than exceptional, but I’m kinda blown away at how good this is.
Despite all the accolades and praise, I really feel like we take this band for granted. The absolute tear they have been on since Jane Doe in 2001 is a truly insane and nearly unprecedented run of not releasing just consistently good albums, but consistently GREAT, envelope-pushing albums. Fact that we got both this—which is, of course, fantastic by the way—AND Jane Live this year...what a damn treat. Definitely makes the wait since 2012 much easier.
These guys are at the point where like, they don't even need to make new music. They have so much incredible quality stuff already that if they never made another song I would still find enjoyment in these songs forever, pretty much. So the fact that we do get new stuff from them every now and then just feels like getting a nice birthday present lol
I don't know why I didn't have any definitive feelings after my first listen to this but on my second listen this album is amazing
Grabbed my ticket for the LA show. They had to move it to a larger venue due to demand. Glad they're still getting the attention they deserve.
