I had over 1000 CD's when I was in my teens/college. Now I exclusively just download mp3's and put onto my 1 TB iphone. I still think some albums just sound best on CD though.
one of my all time favorite cd store finds was getting the whole wilco run from being there through sky blue sky for 20 bucks
finally doing a deep dive into Yeah Yeah Yeahs. i loved Maps when it first came out, but when i listened to the rest of the album i didn't like it nearly as much, so i didn't look into everything that came after. also, at the time, i don't think i knew she was asian, nor do i think i would've cared. now i'm kicking myself for not getting into them sooner, i really like their later stuff, and i can now see their influence in Japanese Breakfast, Sasami, and so many other artists who've mentioned her as an inspiration. i wish i could've seen them while i was growing up, i think that would've been a really formative experience to watch an asian woman rock out performing like that. now their LA shows are all sold out and resale is over a hundred bucks
I have a lot of CDs. All still displayed on my shelves too. I just love them. Sadly the CD player in my car broke and replacing it is not worth it. Getting a new (used) car next year, hoping I can find a solid one with a CD player. There's nothing like going to a city, hitting a used record store and buying a CD for the way home. I rarely buy new CDs (as in new releases) anymore though. That's not really the part that I like about the experience anymore.
my wife and i bought a subaru crosstrek because it had a sunroof (her requirement) and a cd player (my requirement.)
I think I built half my collection as a teen working in the family restaurant. It was close to both a used record store as well as a megastore (remember those?) that put a lot of things on sale for €5. I spent all my tip money in those two stores after shift. Great memories.
This shelf has maybe 40% of my collection. The rest is in boxes until I figure out a better storage situation. A couple of my favorites: the Copeland multi-disc box sets for Ixora and You Are My Sunshine.
I had a huuuge box of old CDs that I let my brothers all pick and take from. My collection now is pretty much just sentimental CDs, stuff that isn't on Spotify, and/or new ones that I've bought more recently. I still have a couple hundred on my shelf.
I don’t really have nice collectibles. My CDs are mostly dusty and banged up I do have an MF Doom - Operation Doomsday special edition, it’s a lunchbox with a CD inside. That’s the only thing that comes to mind right now.
I have these hand stamped CDs from Kris Roe of The Ataris. He was selling these on a couple of his solo acoustic tours a few years ago.
The Aces used to be called The Blue Aces back in the day when they were still an unsigned local high school band here in Utah. I bought this at one of their shows.
I do have something weird. During their original run Busted had to call themselves “Bust” in the Netherlands (where I lived then and now again) because some wedding band (really) owned the name “Busted”. Also, the tracklist misses like 1/4 of the UK version or some shit (which I actually never knew until quite recently). Truly bizarre release.
I’ve been slowly but surely getting most (if not all) of the bands on this comp to sign this CD. This comp introduced me to Alkaline Trio, The Anniversary, No Motiv, Saves The Day, etc and blew my mind. It’s currently signed by Matt Pryor, James Dewees, Dan Adriano, and Josh Berwanger.
Yup. Kris burned a few copies each night in his car, hand stamped them, and then sold them at their merch table. One of the CDs is just some acoustic covers he did. I can't remember what's on the other.
