Well, "Complete Series Save For That Movie Which May Or May Not Ever Come To Fruition" is a tougher sell...
TV on BD sells so poorly, the numbers would probably surprise you. That being said, it's a big enough show that they should be able to turn a profit, so hope they will
I fell off with this show somewhere in season 5, but man, a lot of good memories with those first few seasons
Donald Glover's quick mention of Community here was disappointing to me :\ Donald Glover Talks New Show 'Atlanta' and Leaving 'Community' "I just like endings" .... "So I'm gonna dip mid-season instead of, yaknow, at the actual end". I really hope a movie is still going to come, but it's sounding quite unlikely that Glover would want to be a part of it.
I will say, my girlfriend and I just took another watch through the series, and I REALLY enjoyed Seasons 5 & 6. I really could not get into 6 when it was out, probably due to me just wishing it was more like the old community, but looking back on it, it's fantastic. The meta commentary was better than ever, and I love all of the different things Harmon was willing to explore, taking more risks being off NBC. I would gladly take a season 7 if it's as good as 6. I also really don't get the hate for 4. Some of it's stronger than 3. Going back through my rewatch, I always assumed that Chang's takeover of the school was season 4 (because it was, in my opinion, a pretty dumb arc). Nope, S3, with Harmon on board.
S4 is easily the worst season but I do agree that it's really not that bad. I never skip it on rewatches or anything and I enjoy myself while I'm watching it save for 1 or 2 episodes
If ya don't have Hulu, S6 is still free on Yahoo and works with Chromecast, at least in the Chrome browser on Android :P. That's how I cycled through it. Just gotta do a little bit of searching since Screen isn't a thing anymore.
I'm rewatching Season 6 It's fucking criminal that Keith David hasn't been feature in more comedic roles. I mean, how the fuck hasn't he seen work after this guest star role in season 6? He's easily the funniest character in the season. Dude's comedic delivery is outstanding.
Keith David and Paget Brewster both fucking killed it, way better than Jonathan Banks did. Fit with the cast seamlessly.
I agree. I really like Jonathan Banks, but the chemistry and character dynamics were just perfect for David and Brewster. Brewster's exchange with Annie about the "is she a lesbian" bet in the email privacy episode just killed me. For as bad as the show was in Season 4, it was great to see it become so good again at the end. Plus, the writing wasn't constrained, so they were able to effectively use Chang for the first time since season 2 at least. As far as writing and individual comedic performances, I would put Community up against just about anything outside of Seinfeld and The Office.
I'll agree with you on Keith, but Paget just never really fit well with me. Loved Hickey much more than Frankie
Did a rewatch recently too. Even without a movie the finale is pretty perfect if you ignore the fact that Troy is lost at sea
Did they say that in the show at all, or are you just referring to him no longer being on the show? If the former, I completely missed that one.
Well I guess it's possible he could still be on the adventure or he could have completed the voyage and decided not to return to Greendale, so I guess it's ambiguous I always took the pirate thing as more of a throwaway joke than an actual plot development. I think it could have been cool/funny if they kept hiding little updates on his progress like that throughout the rest of the series though
Just rewatched the finale. One of my favorite episodes of TV ever. I kind of think seasons 5 and 6 were as strong as the first 3.
