Die hard defender of S3 right here. And between s5 and s6 there’s enough great episodes to make them more than worth watching. I like Rick and Morty because Harmon’s humor seems to hit my sweet spot, but I’ll take most of Community over it.
I was a little underwhelmed when S6 originally came out but now I find myself returning to it more than the others. It's a different show but I don't think that's a bad thing, I absolutely love it
Seasons 5 and 6 are both fantastic. As is 3. And 4, while obviously being the worst season, is better than it gets credit for.
yes, 4 gets overhated a bit. Herstory of Dance, the Freaky Friday episode and the Jeff's dad episode are all excellent. even the Halloween one is quite good
I barely remember individual episodes let alone entire seasons haha but it looks like season 4 is when Allison Brie Larson happened
I rewatched it this month and before I started season 4 I told my girlfriend “warning, this is the bad season” but it’s waaaay better than I remember
It’d be nice to have Donald back for the movie, but honestly if they can just get the season 6 cast + Yvette that’s more than enough and I’m all for it.
this is one of my favourite shows of all time, but the more I rewatch it, the more I feel a bit skeeved out by Jeff + Annie's relationship, especially w/r/t Dan Harmon's behind-the-scenes behaviour and the way we know he treated his writers. I know it seems his apology was fully accepted but I would hope, if we ever did get a Harmon-written Community movie, some of the issues around Jeff + Annie could be addressed in some way and some of the creepiness resolved.
oh yeah for sure he was in his mid to late 30s and she was like 20 and vulnerable because she went through a crisis
the character was 18 specifically in Season 1, during which they kissed twice, and even once she's grown up a bit it's still mega-creepy with the age difference. I know sitcoms play fast and loose with this stuff a lot, but Community generally had a lot of respect for its characters and its audience, and Jeff frequently acted as a stand-in for Harmon which makes the whole thing even grosser
I thought Abed was a stand in for Harmon. Not disagreeing about any of the above, I’m just genuinely curious.
I think Harmon has said he identifies most with Jeff, but as he wrote Abeds character, he learned things about Asperger's that made him self-diagnose himself, so he identifies with both characters.
I wasn't aware of that, thanks for pointing it out. I wonder if someone could probably write something about how Abed and Jeff represent opposite parts of Harmon's personality, but I'm not nearly smart enough and I don't want to armchair psychology the guy. that said, I think the comparison with Winger definitely holds true. he starts out as all the pettiest, most self-destructive parts of Harmon but over the series he legitimately improved himself, which is one of the points against what I was saying earlier. the S6 finale actually made steps to address some of the bad things about Jeff + Annie which was a huge step in the right direction... and then had them kiss anyway which basically made it all null and void and I'm still pretty pissed about it. but I think there's room in a movie, especially one that would likely take place 10ish years after the finale, to address those relationship politics in a hindsight kind of way.
I genuinely don't think a movie will ever happen at this point. Super cool to see everyone except the obvious (come on man, you can't take one night off?) together again though
I'd be happy with an hour long episode that gets a standalone Netflix / streaming release. Easier on everyone's schedules, bit of fun for the cast, and satisfies the #andamovie hashtag. Something happens at Greendale, and they all have to go there and save it again. Easy.
I can’t imagine a scenario where Chevy would actually do it (unless it was gobs of money, which is unlikely) so it’s basically a moot point anyway.
Chevy's a twat. While what Harmon did was out of line, Chevy thinking he was a chop above all these new, young actors was fucking ridiculous. You're one of 7 leads on an NBC sitcom 20 years after your time, let these new guys have theirs.
Even though Chevy is confirmed a twat, didn’t Harmon and Chevy reconcile to some degree? I mean he went as far as to film Chevy’s S5 cameo off site because Chevy wasn’t allowed back on the Sony lot where Community was filmed.
