It was kind of bugging me that with all the Green Lantern I've been reading recently I haven't actually read an origin story but I just got to Hal's origin in Geoff's run and I'm glad I waited so long because it's hitting me pretty hard emotionally and I definitely would not have gotten that if it was the first I read.

Started reading Ultimate Spider Man and really enjoying it so far.

Also my girlfriend got me the first volume of Outcast so I'll be reading that soon.

Outcast is a good time, I've caught up on the trades but my comic store doesn't have new issues so I haven't decided if I want to go digital for it yet

Could Dead No More bring back Ultimate Spidey? That would make for an interesting dynamic.

    Keep on the sunny side.

Most recent update: I basically alternate nights with my reading choices before I fall asleep.

    Night A: Bloodline novel

Night B: working on the massive reading order I found online for Hickman's Marvel run. I did some "pre-reading" with Millar & Hitch Fantastic Four 554-569, then Hickman & Ribic Ultimates 1-12, now starting Abnett/Lanning War of Kings 1-6. Not sure how necessary all of this is but it's been pretty enjoyable so far so I'm not mad haha.

Night C: whatever HPB or library trade I've gotten recently. Currently it's All-star Superman volume 1 & 2.

So much story, but so much fun.

So I need some help with this.

Loved comics when I was younger, like 10 or so years ago, but that love fell by the wayside and I really wanna get back into it, just don't know where to re-start...

Huge fan of Spiderman, wouldn't mind getting into Deadpool, and I've loved the X-Files & Star Wars pretty much my whole life. Recommendations for someone who's essentially getting into comics for the first time with those titles? I'll start easy and build from there.

You didn't mention anything DC, but they're still in the early stages of Rebirth which is making it really easy to get into each of those comics. I'd recommend the one shot titled Rebirth, Batman, All Star Batman, Detective Comics, Action Comics, Green Lanterns, and Green Arrow. I've enjoyed every Rebirth title so far though to be honest.

    GL:Rebirth by Johns?

Rebirth really didn't feel like the origin story I was looking for. It was more dealing with the aftermath of Parallax and had a lot of John and Kyle and whoever else, I definitely felt thrown into the middle of the story despite it being an origin of sorts. I think that's bound to happen with the giant universe that is Green Lantern though. It felt obvious Johns was bring back a character instead of starting his own.

I was talking about Secret Origin...Explaining why Abin Sur was on his way to Earth, how Hal got the ring, and the death of his dad.

I do really need to read the Parallax issues at some point because they sound awesome.

Thanks! Definitely gonna give Batman & Suicide Squad a go from the Rebirth series. There's some cool comic book stores here in Melbourne, so I'm gonna go buy a few after work.

Suicide Squad has been a lot of fun too! The most recent issue had a twist that's got me so fucking excited for the run.

That's right! I read his entire run back-to-back in order so it all kinda blended together haha. You're definitely in for a treat the rest of the way!

I'm definitely at the point where I just love the series so I'm really excited, especially for Brightest Day. Currently reading the Rage of the Red Lanterns and the art is so wonderful for the Red Lanterns. Sinestro is becoming a favorite villain too.

Current and upcoming Spider-Man titles to check out:

    SPIDER-MAN
This series focuses on Miles Morales, who is currently one of three characters with the mantle (if you count 2099). You might want to do catch-up with the character first, but you also could likely get away with jumping in at the start of this run. (You can also get a good crash course via Spider-Men, which featured a crossover between Peter and Miles before Miles joined the 616 universe.) It's relatively low-key and character-driven, and Sara Pichelli is a great artist (especially paired with colorist Justin Ponsor).

    SPIDER-GWEN
If you just want big Spider-Man-style fun, this is a really good route to go. I must admit to having not followed beyond the first arc due to wanting to jump on other titles, but I've heard nothing about a fall-off, so I imagine it's still going strong. Gwen Stacy Spider-Woman isn't revolutionary but is simply a really fun take on the mythos.

    SPIDER-MAN/DEADPOOL
I must admit to having not read any of this, but I've heard great things, and you mentioned both Spidey and Deadpool, so if you want to see Peter and Wade having fun adventures together, I'd recommend it.

    CLONE CONSPIRACY
This miniseries event is coming up real soon and looks great. Basically, the Jackal is using his cloning technology to raise the dead, which I think is a very interesting premise. Plus, the Jim Cheung art released so far looks amazing. The series will tie into Amazing Spider-Man, Silk, and a new Prowler series if you want a bigger story, but should also work as a good standalone read. (You should know that Peter is now a successful businessman in a status quo that has been compared to classic Iron Man.)

    AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: RENEW YOUR VOWS
Classic writer Gerry Conway is returning to the character in an upcoming ongoing series based on last year's great miniseries of the same name, which was set in a reality where Peter and MJ were still married and had a young daughter. If you want something reminiscent of classic Peter, this is your best bet.

Any guesses on who the new Venom is?

Maybe the recolored 90s Todd McFarlane variant is a clue...? Dunno what Eddie is up to right now.

All I know is I miss Agent Venom. The Space Knight series looked really cool with Ariel Olivetti on art, and I do plan on reading all of that eventually, but Flash as Agent Venom is easily the best version of the character, even more than the classic Eddie Brock iteration I grew up with.

From the looks of it, it'll be a character that hasn't donned it before. I think a female character could be great. Doubt we get that though.

Ah, hm. Funny enough, I just saw a video the other day on Venom's history that mentioned he was originally going to be a woman with a really dark backstory where she blamed Spider-Man for the death of her husband and unborn child, but someone decided a woman couldn't be intimidating enough. So, a woman as Venom would actually be a cool throwback to the character's roots.

Whoever it is, if it's someone new, it probably won't be a white dude, and people will probably whine, lol. I'd kinda like to see another WOC character, and/or even better, a trans character, but I guess we'll see. Maybe they will use a white dude who isn't Eddie or Flash, which would feel like a major waste.

Reading the entire Bendis Ultimate Spider-Man Peter Parker story from start to finish is what got me back into comics. I still reread it every couple years. That and Scott Snyder's Batman sent me down the rabbit hole and I never looked back haha

Sounds like the same for me, ha. I like that these two seem to pretty simple ways to get into these huge franchises. I find most Marvel/DC stuff pretty intimidating honestly, haha.

oh absolutely. that's what keeps so many from diving in because it feels so daunting. I find it's best to not worry too much about continuity in the beginning and as you ease into it you can really dig in. once you find something that blows you away and you can't stop reading it you'll be hooked. (hope I didn't sound too pretentious there I swear I'm not haha)

I just got a text from my friend not too long ago, it was a photo of him bagging and boarding his new comics with the caption "what have you done to me?" haha
