I was loaned Persepolis, which I finished, and now I'm reading Maus. I know nothing about comics or graphic novels or anything tho lol!
Maybe look into Love and Rockets, created by Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez and existing in some form since the 80s. I've only read one collection so far, but I dug it a lot. If you're digging the whole indie thing so far w/ Persepolis, it could be a good property to get into. How to Read Love and Rockets
Thought I'd try the comic for The Walking Dead and I really liked the first volume but I've just found out they changed the artist after that which is sad, I loved the art and really hate the art they've had ever since so I don't think I'm going to even bother with the rest.
Honestly my least favourite thing about comics in general so far is artist changes. It's always so disappointing.
A lot of it has to do with commitment. Asking a guy to do two issues a month of Batman is insane. A lot of people want to work on their own stuff where they can work at their own pace. It's one of the amazing things about Image.
Yeah, I understand why it happens but it still sucks, ha. Especially when the downgrade is so significant.
Some artist changes are lateral moves or upgrades. Spider-Woman went from Greg Land to Javier Rodriguez, which is among the best possible improvements I can imagine, lol. But, yeah, sometimes it can suck. Stacey Lee being replaced by Tana Ford on Silk literally made me drop the series in spite of loving the character. Scarlet Witch pulls off the different-artist-per-issue approach surprisingly well, though having top talent like Javier Pulido, Annie Wu, etc., definitely helps.
The art in the first issue turned me off to Scarlet Witch immediately. lol. I'll probably pick up the trade down the road though.
I don't see what you hate about Vanesa Del Rey, lol. I know her eyes sometimes look weird, but I still overall like her style a lot.
Probably the eyes tbh. lol Finished Cycle of Life and Death and realized I have no room left on my DC bookshelf.
Did you like Cycle? I really wanna see Amy Chu tackle Poison Ivy again, preferably with a consistent, actually good artist, lol. Maybe Del Rey. You'd love that.
I liked it enough. Really wish the girls had been fleshed out a little bit more. And the way they wrapped it felt way rushed.
The last issue was definitely messy, but at least it set up more potential goodness...that probably won't happen. But it'd be great if it did.
I've never read either of those but I've always heard great things. I believe they made a movie of Persepolis as well if I'm not mistaken. Edit: since it seems like you're into the autobiographical type books you should check out Daytripper
The Wake is so so so good! Was sold on Snyder from his Batman run and was blown away when I dove into his horror comics.
