Even if they end Infamous Iron Man in a year, the look for the character is so classic Doom that they should just spin a new Doom series out from that, with him still in the armor instead of getting scared again. And, yeah, not go full villain again. I'd be all about that. I haven't read Karnak past the first issue, but even if it's incredible, I wouldn't be mad if it ended after one arc. Ellis only did one arc on Moon Knight before moving on. If he has a lot more to say with Karnak and is permitted, sure, let that go for a surprisingly long run. At the same time, though, I wouldn't mind if Ellis just cycled through miscellaneous Marvel characters and embraced a miniseries format, one at a time.
Green Arrow Rebirth has been awesome, love the story and the art has been really rad. As far as New 52 Green Arrow, I was on and off of it, definitely wasn't consistently a fan, but if you haven't read it I highly recommend Jeff Lemire's run, I thought that was some of the best Green Arrow I've read and the art was so cool.
I don't know if anyone else has felt this way, but I've fallen away from Marvel lately. I'm okay with comics evolving and changing, but a lot of changes have felt like change for the sake of change, and stories building up and then falling flat. I still read Amazing Spider-Man and Spidey because I love that character. I'm a bit bored with Peter Stark basically, but it's been fun. Civil War II I struggled following, I may check it out when it's done. Been reading mostly DC and stuff from the smaller publishers.
I think "change for the sake of change" is pretty weird and difficult to define, and thus I don't care, lol. Marvel is wonderful right now and is consistently announcing new comics that interest me greatly. If I had unlimited funds, I'd probably read at least 30 Marvel issues a month. I mean, it all depends on taste, and every company has duds, but Marvel right now is doing so much of what I want out of superhero comics.
I would completely agree it's hard to define haha, I don't know how else to put it. I suppose as you said it being taste, that those changes to me personally maybe didn't feel natural. What are a few amazing stand outs that you think I should maybe revisit and give a chance.
If you're a Spider-Man fan and aren't reading G. Willow Wilson's Ms Marvel, you're making a big mistake. That series deserves every ounce of praise it gets. Kamala Khan is one of the best young superheroes ever, which is a high bar in a medium that gave us Peter Parker, the Teen Titans, and the New Mutants. Silver Surfer also deserves all of its acclaim. Dan Slott and Mike Allred are crafting a story that's bizarre and wild but anchored with really charming main characters. Jason Aaron's Mighty Thor is a really fun fantasy epic that's taken to the next level with gorgeous art by Russell Dauterman. Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Panther isn't an initially easy read if you're not familiar with the character and his world, but if you're patient, it's a very rewarding series that paints a better picture of Wakanda than any other series in the character's long history. Black Widow, illustrated by Chris Samnee and co-written by him and Mark Waid, is a great artist at the top of his game. The story is exciting, but if it weren't, the look alone would justify its existence.
awesome! thanks, the Ms. Marvel comic is definitely one that's been on my list to check out. the rest sound rad as well, i'll check them out, thanks! I did read and really enjoy the first issue of Black Panther and just forgot to continue amongst the too many monthlies I'm trying to keep up with haha
I really like all the new takes on characters Marvel's going with. I'd like to read more of them honestly. I'm excited to get to the new Thor after I've finished Thor: God of Thunder. I really like what I've read of Vision and Dr Strange in terms of Marvel's current stuff. I liked the new Hulk too. I need to try Ms Marvel at some point.
Been reading through Geoff Johns run of Green Lantern, enjoying it a lot, just finished and loved the Sinestro War...I don't think I'll be reading Blackest Night again but it would probably be even better since I now at least somewhat understand what's going on. I can't get into Corps though. I'm not really sure why. Just so many characters that I don't feel like getting to know. Decided to only read it during the crossovers. Also I don't think I've mentioned it in this thread yet but I'm so fucking into Saga. Been powering through the trades, on Volume 5 now. I was going to post my favorite characters but honestly it's like every single one.
Has anyone read any Luke Cage comics? I'm working my way through the Luke Cage, Hero for Hire issues that are on MU. Only on the second so far, and I know there's just the Cage series, which I started, too. Just curious as to what anyone else has checked out!
Glad you are enjoying it! GLC was great too but I can understand why somebody wouldn't. That title really put Tomasi and Gleeson on the map I feel
I thought this was a cool look at all the ways the 90s Clone Saga could have gone well and all the reasons it didn't. Really explains the issues while also being fair to what honestly could have been a classic, beloved Spider-Man tale.
I have that but haven't read it yet, but if you love the art, check out The Wake. It was a 10-issue Vertigo series illustrated by Murphy and colored by Hollingsworth, so same gorgeous visuals, and written by Scott Snyder.
Two or three issues. It's sitting on my shelf. Once I get through my pile I'll get to it. That being said, I've had the last two Moore's Swamp Thing and Sunstone trades on my pile for a very long time.
My haul from this New Dimension Comics "Legendary Basement Sale"! Love getting all these tasty $1 comics. Got: -Some Spider-Man stuff with Bachalo/Martin/Rivera art -Gerard Way's Edge of Spider-Verse issue -Some Captain America stuff with Samnee/Francavilla art -Domino by Stelfreeze -Some classic Marvel Red Sonja stuff -Grip: The Strange World of Men and Girl Crazy, both by Gilbert Hernandez -North 40 by Fiona Staples -Gumby special by Art Adams Maybe this time I'll actually read all my new stuff instead of just cataloging half of it without reading...
I don't know what kinda shops you have around you, but it's probably not a hard back issue to come by at cover price, give or take. Just need to find a shop with a decent, organized back issues section. I look forward to reading the issue. Looks like fun.
That sucks, lol. Have you checked There's A Lot to See and Do at Your Local Comic Shop! before to see what the next closest shop is?
