Sex Criminals can be so goofy but I love it. They are building the world and characters so nicely with each volume. Which Saga hasn't been doing and is bumming me out. If the next volume isn't good I've decided I am giving up on it. I'm stoked for Paper Girls Vol 2 because that's too fun.
So Batman day. Local store is going to have a sale on Batman TPBs. Do you guys have any recommendations?
BATMAN: YEAR ONE My absolute personal favorite. Required Batman reading. Perfect starting point. Engaging writing. Wonderful art.
Everything mentioned already is great, I'd add The Cult, anything from Grant Morrison (preferably starting with Batman and Son if you haven't already), Jeph Loeb's Batman/Superman (includes my favorite Darkseid story and Supergirl kicking ass), Ego and Other Tails, Batman Eternal (3 trades, totally worth it), and Black Mirror
Grabbed Gotham Academy v1 and v2 from my library today. Stoked to check those out since I haven't read much at all from Cloonan. And a heads up for anyone else checking their libraries for stuff, mine tend to have comics in two spots. One in the adult/fiction section and another in the teen section, which is where I found these. My IST order should be here tomorrow or Thursday. Stoked for that!
Currently have GA out as well and concur about the libraries. Both of the ones I frequent do the same thing.
Do any of y'all go to Half Price Books? My local one does these $2 comic bundles of 10, wrapped up so you can't see what you're getting. It's usually nothing great, but whoever does it will usually stick in a classic from the silver or Bronze Age, often in really good shape. Kinda cool from the collecting standpoint. In other news, I finished up my masters, and my family got me a new iPad with a year subscription to Marvel Unlimited. Loving it, plowing through all kinds of Star Wars, Runaways, and Planet Hulk. I'm definitely going to be researching reading orders to tackle some of the major events.
I straight-up love hitting up the trades section of HPB. You never know what you're gonna find! Sometimes I don't find much, but other times I have to decide what I'm gonna put back because there's too much to get, lol.
Went to HPB this weekend and sold my entire comic collection this weekend actually. That store should have some good stuff now haha!
Check out the "Discover" tab. They will have reading orders for huge events like Civil War more often than not. And congrats on the masters! Wish I had a Half Price Books near me.
Glad to hear others like HPB. I will be grabbing mostly non-Marvel for now haha, found a cool Superman/Batman/Supergirl trade last time that I really enjoyed.
With art by Michael Turner, who I miss when I think of him. He was of a style that I don't like the way I did when I was younger, but I really liked him back in the day. Plus, he was the one big active artist who was at Pittsburgh Comicon every year he was healthy enough to attend. I'm glad I got a comic by him signed before he died.
