I kinda follow both writers and artists really. But I don't really have too terribly many that I do follow so that helps.
I have a friend of mine reading issues of Paper Girls and Faith as they come out, and her husband just read my copy of Watchmen and I think is gonna read New Frontier next. Spreading the good news, y'all.
For me it is basically Gail, Bryan Lee O'Malley, Snyder, and Reminder at this point on the writer side. Artist, I'd go with Albequerque, Nguyen, Fiona Staples, and Quitely. And the Loeb/Sale combo. And Amanda Conner. Mostly just to avoid tho.
What is Faith? Agreed with Simone and Snyder, add Johns, John Layman, Justin Jordan, Joe Hill, Joshua Williamson, Tim Seeley and Jim Zub(kavich) and that's mine. (Apparently I have a thing with J's) For artists, definitely Nguyen, Camuncoli, Conner, Reis'/Prado combo, and Tradd Moore. I think that's about it and I realize that seems like a ton but most of the writers haven't written much to date
Interesting. Had no idea about this! I'll have to try to remember and check it out when the trade drops.
What Henry said. I read the 4-issue mini and dug it but not enough to continue into the ongoing series. She really is a cool character, though, with a nice mix of classic Superman/Spider-Man-style superheroism and Kamala Khan-esque fervent nerdy fandom. I don't what's happening with Valiant's movie plans, but I'd see a Faith film, or any film with her.
I know some people who dig it, but I'm too interested in Marvel and, to a lesser extent, DC to get into their whole world; my "leftover" time goes to creator-owned. I do have The Valiant, which I'm pretty sure is the go-to starting point, but I haven't read it. I've only read Faith.
Yeah I'm not really sure either about Valiant but I know it was big in the 90's in a way Image is now from what I can tell. Basically th y rebooted everything a few years ago and it seems that it's actually caught on somewhat.
Read Outcast Vol 2. Loving it. Ordered Vol 3 and hopefully I'll be able to catch up but I'm not sure if my comic shop gets the new issues (They don't get Nailbiter, blah). I'll be glad to watch the show when it's available somewhere reasonable as well. I have my eye on starting Manifest Destiny too.
all the fourth world / new gods stuff from Jack Kirby is 10/10. I've been wanting to get a Jack Kirby inspired tattoo for years now. Hopefully will get it soon.
Definitely Fantastic Four. That was the Marvel title he got to let loose on the most. I also have to give him credit for the cover to Amazing Fantasy 15, which he penciled and original Spider-Man artist Steve Ditko inked because Stan Lee didn't like Ditko's take on the cover, even though he didn't like Kirby for the Spider-Man interiors.
New Suicide Squad #3 was kind of a waste. It was 3 issues of NSS and the first issue of each Most Wanted book. Really hate when they pull that shit.
Just to jump in here, the Valiant universe is awesome. They are doing some truly awesome stuff. As for where to get started, their flagship book is XO Manowar. You can't go wrong picking up that first trade. But my biggest recommendation is probably Harbinger. And then if you want some quality action / comedy, go with Archer & Armstrong.
I stumbled upon this picture of Superman with Darwyn Cooke inks over Jack Kirby pencils, and it makes me really, really happy.
The beginning of one of the most amazing runs in modern comics, IMO. Literally my favorite comic run of all time. Follow it all the through to the end, its incredibly long and spanning but constantly builds upon itself and weaves together so many epic plot threads, all written by Hickman. Fantastic Four -> FF -> Avengers/New Avengers -> Infinity -> Secret Wars. Man, I wish that one day they would collect all of it in one mega Omnibus. I'd pay all the moneys for that.
I will definitely be taking the time to do this. Can the whole thing be read on marvel unlimited? I haven't subscribed yet but will be...this sounds like a good place to start.
