This was the best advice. I went to my local library on lunch today, and they had tons of stuff I've been wanting to read. I'm excited.
Yeah, I've noticed it definitely varies a lot between libraries, but I can typically find plenty to read. I could also just read all of the unread trades on my shelf though too haha.
@Colby Searcy thanks for recommending Battle for the Cowl, just read and enjoyed it, Killer-Jason Todd is my favorite. I believe I am ready for the the Return of Bruce Wayne now. I also got Paper Girls Vol 1 since everyone was talking about it. I love the cover, probably read it tonight if I finish this damn book I'm reading.
Reading Hickman's Avengers/New Avengers leading up to Secret Wars as most if not all(?? I assume) of it is on MU. It's pretty good, a lot going on though. Idk, I haven't found an Avengers book I've really loved yet
It's a lot like Hickman's Fantastic Four on a bigger scale: Starts really good, gets so big that it's hard to keep track of, and then ultimately brings everything together into a thoroughly successful and rewarding conclusion. If you're in the midst of the exhausting stretch, just keep up. The payoffs in Time Runs Out and, more so, Secret Wars is worth it. The end of Secret Wars is the perfect resolution of Reed's story started in New Avengers #1. I just finished Time Runs Out and look forward to rereading Secret Wars with everything fresh in my mind (since my original read wasn't quite in order, lol).
Back from Seattle and my girlfriend and I got a bunch of stuff for more than half of cover price. Got Green Lantern: No Fear by Geoff Johns, The Flash: The Dastardly Death of the Rogues by Geoff Johns, Captain Marvel Vol 1 by Kelly Sue DeConnick, and Batman: Black Glove by Grant Morrison! Beyond stoked. Really enjoying Green Lantern. Darwyn Cooke's art in one of the issues of GL is gorgeous and nostalgic in a way. Need to check out his New Frontier stuff.
What would you guys considering the essential Batman books. I have most everything I think is on the list, but would love to fill a shelf with just Batman. This is what I have so far: Death in the Family The Dark Knight Returns Hush Vampire Year 100 Morrison's run Snyder's run Year 1 The Long Halloween Haunted Knight Dark Victory Arkham Asylum The Killing Joke The only thing I can think of that I'm definitely missing is Under the Hood
Thanks, good to know! It's all starting to come together, but man the 8 month jump at the start of Time Runs Out has me totally lost haha
Ew. Killing Joke. If you're talking "essential," I think you need to get Neal Adams' stuff. If I remember right, it's the most iconic classic run.
I bought The Killing Joke and had a hard time even getting through it. lol. Probably my least favorite of all of those books. At least it was really cheap for a hardcover.
I'm kind of reluctant when it comes to multi-volume books like that and No Man's Land. They are just so dense.
I hope to get around to it eventually. The whole set runs about $50. Definitely out of my price range right now.
Black Mirror by Snyder? I have it but have yet to read it. Not sure if you were counting that in his run. I only have that, vol. 1- 8 of his run, The Return of Bruce Wayne, Year One, and Killing Joke. I need more haha.
I have so many on my shelf to get through still. I should stop getting some from the library so I can do that.
Marvel And Hulu Announce Runaways TV Series Holy shit, you guys. RUNAWAYS. ON HULU. Which has, slowly, been killing it with original programming. I'm just as excited for this as I am for Defenders. Nico Monrou and Victor Mancha 4 lyfe.
Just posted it in the MCU thread. Freakin' weird approach with Hulu, but who cares, 'cause mother-loving Runaways!
It will also likely be one episode a week, on Tuesdays like all the other Hulu shows. Which is great. I could use a good Marvel show that I don't blow through in a single weekend.
