Wait... There's "event exhaustion"... But, they're also not having enough big plot developments? I'm confused, lol.

Lol my bad. I mean, you already know my dislike for Civil War II. And that's not really even "event exhaustion". I just don't think it's a very good event. And books don't need to have "events" to have big plot developments. Maybe it was confusing because I mentioned Secret Wars which was an event. But Avengers/New Avengers all the way through felt like great storytelling even before we knew it was leading to "Everything Ends" or whatever it ended up being called. To me it just personally feels like many of the books aren't really going anywhere or developing the characters too much, ya know? Like i feel like nothing memorable is happening. Like many books are in filler mode, to equate it to tv or something.

I feel like I'm bad at communicating what I'm trying to say haha. Or maybe it's just me. Who knowssssss.

I feel like we're reading completely different Marvel, lol. Ms Marvel is great every month. So is Silver Surfer. I love Spider-Woman. Mighty Thor is super exciting. Black Panther is wonderful. As is Black Widow. Hellcat is hilarious. I'd agree that Spider-Man is moving slow, but that's been the Bendis Spider-Man approach since day one, and I like it that way.

Though, I also have loved every episode of Civil War II, lol.

Yeah that kinda supports my point though. I'll give that solo books like the ones I mentioned and Black Widow, Spider-Woman, and Thor and KARNAK(can't believe I forgot that one) are doing great, but their teams books are lacking so hard. There's nothing memorable going on in them. Again, IMO lol. Hellcat is more of a humorous book than a plot heavy book, which is just not my personal taste. Same reason I don't really dig Squirrel Girl that much ( I know, I know). Spider-Man is actually the one book I think Bendis is really good at. His style of dialogue fits the younger characters much better than, say, Iron Man or Doom. So while that book is slow, I'm actually sticking along for the ride.

Stuff like Ultimates is really up my alley. High concept sci-fi + that stellar team is a winning combo. Glad Al Ewing is still on board the sequel to that, Ultimates^2.

Solo, Slapstick, Foolkiller, Prowler, and every GotG char getting solo books is not the right direction though.

Isn't Ultimates a team book? So, there's a good team book right there, lol. I heard that Web Warriors was decent while it lasted. I'm not reading All-New X-Men, but my friend who is says that he likes it a lot; it's written by Spider-Woman's Dennis Hopeless, so I could see it being an enjoyable read. And, the story set up by the Inhuman/X-Men conflict is about to lead into an event by Lemire, Soule, and Yu, which could be really cool.

Sure, GOTG has been meh for a while, and All-New All-Different Avengers could use a more exciting threat, but I don't think it's as direly mediocre as a whole as you seem to think. Hickman's Avengers work was pretty unique and crazy, so it's not exactly an easy act for anything to follow, lol. And, I still actively defend Civil War II, so yeah...lulz.

And, if you don't think a Star Lord series by Chip Zdarsky and Kris Anka is a good move, then I don't even know what to say. That's probably gonna be SO much fun. Gamora looks cool, too.

I brought up Ultimates as the exception haha I stick by everything else I said, including All New X-Men. I think that book has mostly been bad too, and the Apocalypse event was so dang boring. The teams have potential, I'm not saying they don't. A-Force, Extraordinary X-Men, and New Avengers I think have some of the coolest lineups yet, and they feel squandered.

GotG needs to boot The Thing, Venom, and maybe even Angela and Kitty Pryde. Scale back and get back to what made the book great. Especially cause with the new movie coming out, there's a 99% chance Mantis will be rejoining the team.

I dunno. Maybe part of the problem is just that what these books are aiming for and what you like out of team books aren't the same thing. Which is fair.

I support the idea of taking Thing, Venom, and Kitty out. But, if Angela isn't getting a solo title, I want to see her either remain in GOTG or join another book (maybe Mighty or Unworthy Thor), preferably with Sera also showing up. I'd hate to see them fade into obscurity. But, yeah, hopefully they relaunch GOTG with a new #1 and creative team for the movie, maybe around FCBD. With how unfocused Bendis' run has been, and with him doing Jessica Jones, Spider-Man, and the Iron Man books, maybe it's time for a change.

Caught up on Scarlet Witch. I don't know why I don't just put this on my pull instead of reading it in random spurts, considering how much I've been enjoying this series.

#7 had art by good ol' Annie Wu, which is funny because it featured a character known as "The Wu." Anyways, cool character, fun story. Then, #8 was illustrated by Tula Lotay and was my favorite of the three I read tonight. In it, Wanda talks to a psychiatrist with a small twist at the end. I'd be very down with her crossing paths with this psychiatrist again down the road. Then, #9 was a single-issue Civil War II tie-in centered around a conversation between Wanda and her douchey brother, Quicksilver, illustrated by Joelle Jones. I really felt for her as she dealt with a brother who didn't respect her as her own person capable of reason.

A series with an artist per issue could be a mess, but the majority of the artists have been wonderful, and I love the writing. Plus, those David Aja covers are perfection.

The only reason I feel like the constantly changing artists works on Scarlet Witch, when it's so annoying on any other book, is due to the schizo nature of the character itself. Kinda paints a nice parallel.

I said this in the book thread, but maybe it's more fitting here. I read Scott Snyder's Voodoo Heart and it was actually pretty good! His prose is pretty clean, but his endings are reminiscent of Stephen King in the sense that they fumble a bit. It's not horror or super hero based, but iya worth reading if you're a fan.

I've always been curious about this. I'll have to check it out, thanks!

Read All-New Hawkeye Vol 1 today and I'm pretty meh towards the character at this point. Lemire did much better with Ollie when it comes to Archer characters

Picked up Injection Vol. 1 and The Dark Knight Returns at the library yesterday. Turns out last time I went, I missed a chunk of comics in the new sections. Had to make myself a list so I could remember what all they have there. Honestly suggest checking out local libraries if you're like me and just don't have the funds/shelf space for too many more comics (or books in general) right now.

Absolutely agree! B/w the 2 I frequent I can usually get everything from every publisher. Add in Overdrive and Hoopla for digital ones and you're golden!

Unfortunately, the ones by me aren't that extensive. The one I was at yesterday has quite a bit of Batman and 3 of the Chew omnibuses so that's good enough for now haha. I'll have to check out Hoopla. I haven't seen too many in my library's Overdrive site. Not sure how extensively I've searched it for comics though!

Yeah Overdrive doesn't seem to have too terribly many. Hoopla's selection is fantastic though, lots of Image titles!

Civil War II #5 was delayed for an entire month... because David Marquez and his wife had a baby during the process of what's a visually demanding issue. But, those who whined about Secret Wars delays and Civil War II even existing will still be mad, lol. Also, it's been expanded to 8 issues, which, as a fan of the event, I don't mind.

Finally starting The Flash! This is long overdue.

It was between Flash and Squirrel Girl Vol 2. but I need to read more DC current titles (not only Marvel) and I was in the mood for a more serious superhero title last night.

So I'm having trouble which comic books to pick up this week If anyone has any info/summary about these feel free to pitch and thank you in advance! I'm mostly basing them on the CA atm but I'm wondering who from these team of writers I should be grabbing singles for (my criteria: decent to good story, consistently good cover arts)

    My choices:
    Harley Quinn
    Suicide Squad
Batgirl And the Birds of Prey
    Supergirl

For reference, this is what I currently follow (these are all singles, those i follow in trade not included. not a lot tbh):
    Gwenpool
    Snotgirl
    Archie
    Betty and Veronica
    Black Hammer

The Secret Wars delay sucked, but it was WELL worth the wait. I can't express how much I loved Secret Wars lol.

While we're on the topic, I love how the ripples of Secret Wars are still rippling in the Marvel Universe. For a while I was sure that a majority of the tie-ins were superfluous and just a chance to revisit a cool idea, but I'm positive every single one of those tie-ins are going to affect the main MU in some way. Every week I notice something different that has made it's way on over from Battleworld.
