Just finished up The Immortal Iron Fist. I think it's a good read to dig into before the show comes out. I didn't know much at all about the character. And even though I've seen Luke Cage in JJ and he was a recurring character in this series, I think I'm going to read up more on him next since the solo show is out on 9/30.
I'll have to check that out, I'd like to be prepared for the show. I really liked Luke in Alias and he was great on the JJ's show. I caught up on a few Rebirth titles, Wonderwoman is pretty good, Action Comics is great, Superman is ok, I don't really like kids, The Flash started out cool when it was dealing with the Watchmen stuff but I don't like where it's going. As soon as I finish Blackest Night I think I'll start Green Lantern. I also started 1940's Batman (not detective) from issue 1 so that's been interesting.
I think it did a good job with the Iron Fist origin in general. I just read Luke Cage, Hero For Hire #1, but that's the only one MU has for that series so I'm going with Cage since it's 20 issues. I need to catch up on the Rebirth stuff. I've already lost track of what's out haha.
Read Promethea, Spiderman: Blue, and How To Talk To Girls At Parties today and they were all very good. Spiderman: Blue was the weakest of the three, but I enjoyed it for my first Peter Parker Spiderman. How was really cool too, but I wish there was more. A great short story that I'm going to have to check out after reading that. And Prothemea had a rough start, Moore tries so hard to beat you over the head with Dystopian world building that it gets to be a bit much. Once, it starts really digging into what Promethea is and Moore gets philosophical without hitting you over the head it's a really insane exploration of imagination. Williams art and paneling are some of my favorite so far. He's so fucking inventive!
Just finished up Black Science Vol. 1. Took a couple of the issues for me to really get into it, but I did end up enjoying it. First work of Remender's that I've read even though I've had Deadly Class Vol. 1 sitting on my shelf for a while. Anything else by him that I should dig into?
I personally love LOW. Some people think it takes things a little too far, but it is my favorite of his four books right now. Tokyo Ghosts wasn't for me.
My thoughts exactly on that! I enjoyed both stories but I'll probably trade wait this one. Still trying to save money/shelf space haha.
Yeah it's definitely understandable. I like a lot of the Rebirth titles right now so it's just a lot to keep up with and buy each week.
Grabbed Scott Pilgrim 2 and paper Girls yesterday. Scot Pilgrim got even better and I'm so excited to start Paper Girls today!
I'm so new to comics it's not even funny. I read as a kid, but until recently I hadn't picked one up in about 2 decades. When the new Marvel Star Wars series started coming out, it peaked my interest and now I'm loving reading again. I'm considering purchasing a used IPad and a year subscription to Marvel Unlimited so I can start diving into all I've missed!
I knew nothing about Paper Girls other than every one loves it and its written by the dude that writes Saga, but shit I didn't expect it to be anything like this. What am I reading? lol
Loved All Star Batman. I was wondering why Duke hadn't really done anything yet, guess they were waiting for this. I know, wtf right? has to be protecting him in some way
So in a sense it's written like Saga? You're kept in the dark but as the volumes progress you understand a lot more.
I think I know why I've fallen so out of favor with Marvel books as of late. Except for a very select few (the fantastic Vision, Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, and Ultimates) they all feel like they're just spinning their wheels, with little to no significant plot developments. Which feels like a radical adjustment coming off of the insane storytelling of Hickman's game-changing FF/Avengers/New Avengers/Secret Wars that went on for years. It all just feels so inconsequential. Their team books especially feel worthless; ANAD Avengers, A-Force, Deadpool's Mercs, New Avengers, Agents of SHIELD, both Inuhuman books, Guardians of the Galaxy, Thunderbolts, and EVERY X-book. Hopefully that all changes once Civil War II is over and the next era of Marvel NOW begins. Speaking of Vision, is anyone else scared for Victor Mancha? I'm reading through Runaways for the first time, and after that and Avengers A.I., I've come to the conclusion Victor is one of the most criminally underused characters. Hopefully Infamous Iron Man delivers, but I know I'm only setting myself up for disappointment hoping Bendis's Doom is anywhere near Hickman's. Hopefully I can add that, the return of OG Nova, and Champions to my list, but we'll see. Another great week for DC, though. Action Comics, Detective Comics, Hal Jordan, and Red Hood were great, though Flash continues to be the best, even though it finally fell prey to fill-in artists. All-Star Batman, though. Just from this first issue you can tell it's going to be so fucking good. Snyder has been wanting to do this Two-Face story for so long, and the wait has totally been worth it. This book will be insane.
