Gonna also recommend Runaways @Colby Searcy! Been enjoying a lot of BKV stuff as well. That, PG, Saga, and Y. I'm two books into Y and 3 volumes into Saga so I have some catching up to do there.
My trip to the comic store ended up turning into a pretty big haul yesterday, got Batman #4, Suicide Squad Rebirth, The Punisher #4, Kill or Be Killed, Justice League #2, and walking dead #157 (Start of the Whisper war!!!) Also got a few trades in the mail: Grant Morrison's Arkam Asylum, Ego and Other Tales, The Man Who Laughs, Batman Earth One, and Outcast Vol 2
Started and finished Archie Vol 1 tonight. Man that was great, so engrossing especially for something based in and about HS characters! Wish Fiona Staples could've stayed on art duty because I really enjoyed her's the best. Wasn't the biggest fan of Annie Wu or Veronica Fish's art but it wasn't off putting(sorry @Tim !). The 1st issue of Jughead at the end didn't really intrigue me either but I did like Erica Henderson's art
I've gotten over the Fiona Staples thing but I do agree 1-3 are very very good. Enjoying Veronica Fish's take. Listening to the podcast posted in this thread made me appreciate er art even more.
Yesterday I read Batman Court of Owls, Batman the Long Halloween, Long Walk to Valhalla, and started Space Dumplins. Excited that I finally had time to read something by Snyder since everyone was talking about him and my boyfriend and I have a lot of his work on our shelves. Can't wait to continue that run and see where it goes. The art was really, really cool. Long Halloween was also a lot of fun and very much The Godfather which makes me enjoy anything a lot more. Long Walk to Valhalla is a stand alone graphic novel about a guy who's car breaks down and runs into a girl who tells him he is going to die that day. The art is very blue which could be off putting for some but I really enjoyed it and what it did. It is sad but never overly so and pretty subtle in how it hits you. Didn't stick with me as much as IKG but still a quick read to check out.
You're in for a treat for Snyder's Batman, just continually gets better! Do you have the sequels to Long Halloween? I've never read them but loved LH more than I expected to.
Long Halloween is my favorite Batman book. That artwork. I wasn't huge into Dark Victory or Haunted Knight. Need to go back and reread.
I know we have Haunted Knight and am stoked to read it, especially since it was only $10. The comic book store in our area has a wonderful used section with everything in perfect condition. @Henry any particular reason you can remember for not liking them or just nothing really stuck as with LH?
So if I've read all of Grant Morrison's JLA run up through World War 3 should I keep going with new writers? I've heard nothing about it. I also thought the newest issue of Justice League was good, so maybe give it another shot if you weren't digging the first one. And Kill or Be Killed was pretty interesting.
How was JLA? I have the Justice For All trade (vol. 5 from the original trades I believe) and was debating getting the others used on Amazon to have 1-6. Might just read the rest online, though.
Rock of Ages and World War 3 were excellent. I thought it started off a little slow but that was probably just me trying to keep up with the continuity. Seemed like there were also a lot of issues not written by Morrison even within that run and for the most part I didn't like those as much. I'd say definitely get Rock of Ages and maybe read the rest online. The start of the run is important for WW3 though so I wouldn't jump around.
Sweet, thanks! I think that was the one I was having the most trouble finding online actually hah. Seems to be around $15 used on Amazon, which seemed strange considering the rest were in the 0.01-2.00 range.
Got my comics today. Paper Girls #8 was good. I know I said this already, but the second arc is definitely better than the first one (which I still dug a lot) thus far. I can see how the pieces are slowly aligning, and I'm all in on the main characters. This will continue to be one of my favorite weekly reads. My shop didn't have Green Lanterns #4, and I forgot to add it to my pull after some uncertainty, so I'll have to get that at another location next week. I did get and read Justice League #2. I've enjoyed each issue so far, including the one-shot, which makes me want to keep reading... but, as other titles start up, I dunno. Also gave the new Harley Quinn #1 a shot on a whim, without having read anything of her prior run. Decent fun, but forgettable enough for me not to read more. I got Kill or Be Killed #1 by Brubaker, too, but held off on reading it for now. Likely will early next week.
Finished up Birthright Vol 1 tonight. I checked out Vol 2 and 3 but I don't think this is Williamson's best series. First issue was great and just kinda stayed stale after that. Still enjoyable though.
This was a great interview with Tom King: The Spy Who Came Into the Comic Book Store — The Ringer Also, I'll be writing over at Talking Comics now! Should have a review up sometime this week.
Recent reads: Scott Pilgrim Vol 1 - Literally so good and I don't understand why. Silver Surfer Vol 2 - Good as I expected. It left a pretty cool cliff hanger. I wonder if that's going to be a long problem or not...
