Picked up Batman Vol. 1 by Brubaker, Black Science Vol. 1, and Superman Red Son from the library today. Also noticed that had 3 of the huge Chew hardcovers so I'm sure I'll be checking those out, too.
I'm a butthead, but I finally finished my review of The Flash #1! If anyone's at all interested in checking it out. Also, there's a few spoilers in it and a big one in terms of what happens at the end. Definitely pick it up if you haven't yet, it's seriously good stuff. Edit: Whoops, forgot the link! Inherent Comics
I just forgot the link because I'm a doofus! Please let me know if you have any critiques on my writing. I want to get better at this hobby. I edited it in my original post.
Read the entirety of John Ostrander's Suicide Squad run. I definitely started liking it a lot more around issue 30 when they finally started telling their own stories and not everything was part of some larger event. There are a lot of things now that I want to see in the movie, really hoping for the pie throwing gag, that was amazing. We would probably know by now if she is, so she there's like no chance she will be, but introducing Oracle in the movie would be really awesome, since she plays a pretty big role and I read that this was Babs' first appearance as Oracle. Of course if they plan on doing Batgirl instead eventually than scratch that, but I doubt they will. EDIT: Also read The Heart of Hush, which was wonderful. Had no idea it took place during RIP so that worked out well for me. Also read #1 for Red Hood and Batgirl. Both pretty good. tbh I liked Bird of Prey more than the first batgirl, though Babs definitely looked better. I guess that's to be expected since I liked Simone's run more and this new run seems to be an extension of Burnside. Super interested in the setting though.
I've been wanting to pick up Simone's run on Batgirl for a while and now I think I'll have to put that in my cart along with Geoff Johns the Flash and Green Lantern.
Keep in mind i've only been reading comics for like a year, but Simone's Batgirl is pretty easily one of my favorite runs. There's a pretty legit horror element to a lot of issues, and her main nemesis, Knightfall, is really great.
I've only been reading them for about that long too. I'll have to check it out. Wasn't a huge fan of the Burnside art. Thanks!
Finished up Wytches last night and started Wayward. Trying to get back to reading comics. Checked out quite a few image GN from the library that I plan to get through over the next couple of weeks.
It was good! Different than I expected. It's interesting to read Snyder's notes about how personal everything was for him and give a little insight of himself. Artwork itself was great, I just wasn't the biggest fan of the watercolor usage.
I wasn't a huge fan of the actual Wytches, but the art is absolutely stunning. What's weird for me when it comes to Snyder's writing is that, I'm not like a huge fan of what's actually written, but hearing him talk about his work wins me over. Like I think I like his approach to Batman more than the actual series. If that makes any sense.
Absolutely! You like it because you understand the context of what he's doing and why but not necessarily his writing by itself?
Starting the Carnage book of Ultimate Spiderman (#55 I think) tonight and I'm pretty excited to see him and see Venom's return.
This Monstress book is so dense. I love that it was $10 for basically a trade and a half worth of pages, but man it is taking me a while to get through.
Just finished up East or West Vol 5 and it was excellent. Made me enjoy the series even more. Also read How to Talk to Girls at Parties. Ba and Moon are by far some of my favorite artists out and it was super fun and colorful. Definitely recommend for a quick, fun read.
Yep! Like I feel like his writing is good, but i love it when I understand where Snyder is coming from more. Like I liked Court of Owls, but I loved knowing that it had to do with Snyder's own anxiety about feeling like he didn't know the city like he did before he moved.
That right there explains why Scott Snyder is one of the best in the biz to me. He's deeply personal but also deeply relatable and cutting edge at the same time with his stories.
I'll have to read some more of his stuff! Something always feels a little lacking in his writing. Maybe it's his overuse of exposition? I'm by sure. Need to check out The Wake and picking up All Star Batman when it comes out. I think Tom King might be my favorite comic book writer right now. Started Sheriff of Babylon recently and wow! It's awesome. Of course, Vision right now is insane.
After loving what I've read of Hickman's Avengers work, I finally have it all in hardcover and have been reading through it all in order for the first time. (I previously read New Avengers through #23 in collected form, the Infinity miniseries in $1 back-issues, the first deluxe hardcover of Avengers, and Secret Wars as it came out, not at all in that order, lol.) It's so rewarding to finally consume this the way it was intended and make sense of all the miscellaneous plot threads. I'm currently through all of Avengers pre-Time Runs Out. I just have to re-read New Avengers #13-23, then finally read Time Runs Out, and then finish by re-reading Secret Wars. It's so interesting to see how much all of this massive epic involves threats that are ultimately the 616 Earth's fault. The Mapmakers coming from AIM was an interesting twist. I can't wait to see more about the Black Swans and Rabum Alal (whose identity I already know, though not the details yet). I feel confident that this is and will continue to be my favorite Avengers run, and Secret Wars my favorite event. I know that this epic is way too crazy for the MCU, but I'd love to see aspects of it used in the films, especially if Marvel and Fox ever strike a deal with the Fantastic Four. Either way, seeing some form of the Black Order in Infinity War would be so cool.
Checked the following digitally a need help deciding what to read first: Archie Vol 1 Black Magick Vol 1 I Hate Fairyland Vol 1 Paper Girls Vol 1 Descender Vol 1-2 Birthright Vol 1 iZombie Vol 1
