The Visiom is so good! One of my favorite things to come out and what hooked me on Tom King. The perfect omniscient voice that adds this layer of just overwhelming despair. It's honestly awesome.
Yeah, the narration has this kind of neo-horror feel to it that I love. Haven't read anything like this before, honestly I'm pretty new to reading Marvel. Grew up mainly on DC.
I hear you! I literally just started comics a year ago and superhero ones a few months ago. Hell yeah! I can't wait for Omega Men to come out in August. Been dying to get a hold of that collection since I read the first issue.
Interesting that you got into non-superhero comics first. What did you start with/get into comics with?
I started older, so that might be why. I started with Saga after picking it up on a whim and Craig Thompson's Carnet de Voyage too. They were just so different from other mediums of story telling that I was immediately hooked. The latter being such a great insight into Thompson's head through imagery and a travel diary, I was just blown away. How about you? How'd you start?
Also, I want to read some JL stuff since I enjoyed the hell out of the trailer. Should I just start with the rebirth stuff that was released last week? Anyone read it yet and have an opinion?
I actually started older to if you consider 21-22 older haha. I've always been a Batman fan but never read to comics or anything. I became friends with someone from work who was into comics so I started reading Batman:Hush and Kick-Ass as my first comics venture
Will do! Read Rebirth and loved it. Never really into a lot of the other characters and not knowing a lot and it still read fantastically. What other Geoff Johns stuff should I check out? Haha That's when I started, I'm 23 now. Dude! Hush is so good, and a great place to start with Batman. You get to go through Batman's hits and Jim Lee's art is absolutely gorgeous. Never read Kick Ass, but I enjoyed the movie (the first one). You big on Millar?
Johns-Read his GL, Aquaman and Flash runs. All so great! I've only ever read the Kick-Ass series by him and enjoy that quite a bit.
If I walk into a comic shop tomorrow that always has a real deep selection, what do I get? I'm looking for 3 to 4 books to hop into.
Well, Snot Girl #1 (written by Bryan Lee O'Malley) just came out last week. It's about a fashion blogger with terrible allergies and had an interesting ending. I liked it a lot and would definitely recommend giving it a try. Paper Girls is 7 issues in, with #8 dropping next week. I'd definitely recommend you pick up the first trade and issues #6 and 7, and then follow from there. It's essentially a sci-fi Stand By Me set in the 80s. It's my favorite creator-owned series at the moment. The brand new Batgirl series launches tomorrow. She'll be on a training adventure in Asia, which sounds like a fun premise for a character. I'll certainly be giving it a shot.
Been going through the 1987 Suicide Squad and it's so hard to read, nearly every page has an annotation about something that happened in a different series. Not reading Checkmate especially is proving super annoying. I'm not a huge fan of it but I want to read as much SS as possible before the movie. Much prefer the more recent versions (Way more reasons than Harley but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss the hell out of her)
Man, I am liking Civil War II so much more than the original Civil War. I love how dialogue-driven it's been so far, but I'm also excited for the poop to hit the fan in #5. I don't know what David Marquez is doing next, but hopefully it's more Marvel work with Ponsor colors, 'cause dang it, this book looks great.
I read last issue of Ms Marvel yesterday and this week's issue today, and I think it's my favorite Civil War II tie-in. The day that G. Willow Wilson leaves this book (hopefully not for many more years) will be a very sad day in the comic book world. I easily preferred Batgirl #1 to Batgirl and the Birds of Prey: Rebirth #1; looks like I made the right choice there. I already miss Babs Tarr's involvement, but this should prove to be a decent follow-up series. Also continuing to love Mighty Thor. Also continuing to love Black Panther. Also think Detective Comics has been pretty decent (though I still may abandon it when All-Star Batman comes around). Overall a rather good week of comics for me.
