SDCC: Roxane Gay Joins Marvel for "Black Panther: World of Wakanda" This sounds just wonderful. I'm so very down with having two Black Panther titles in my life.
Been really into Superman, Flash, Green Arrow, and Batman (which is proving difficult) Rebirth titles as well as Black Hammer after that fantastic first issue and Spider-Man and Black Panther for Marvel. Other than that, I've been enjoying my way through Preacher since I'm loving the show and slowly but surely working through Grant Morrison's Batman run. What about you? Glad to see there's another Black Hammer fan here!
What's difficult about the new Batman stuff? And I'm stoked for All Star Batman coming out soon. Would this be a good place to start Superman and the Flash? Really want to check out Wonder Woman since Rucka's writing it. I love the Preacher (the show). But I don't think I'm a huge Ennis fan. Sometimes it feels like he's trying a bit too hard to be graphic in his dialogue. Is the Morrison Batman stuff good? I just know he gets lost in time and I don't know how I feel about that for Batman.
I'm trade-waiting Superman, but if you want to read the character, it seems like an excellent place to start. I like the art a lot, and the angle of Superman as a father to a "Super Son" is perfect for capturing the hope and inspiration central to the best work with the character. I loved the first issue and hear the next two continued the goodness. The only weird-ish aspect is that he's the pre-New 52 Superman who became the main Superman again after the New 52 one died, but the focus of the title seems to be off of that and on the family dynamic. Though, define "start." Are you completely new to the character, or just to ongoing titles? 'Cause if you haven't read All-Star Superman yet, you HAVE to.
Difficult as in it's not hooking me as Snyder did with Court of Owls. Feels as though King is still getting a vibe for what he wants to do, which is definitely valid for such a big title after a lauded run for the past five years. I didn't read any Superman before Rebirth except for Death of Superman, All-Star Superman, Superman Unchained, and the first Earth One volume, but I think it's an excellent place if you're looking for to jump into the continuity. Never read anything of Flash and it's been such a fun, mysterious series from the get-go. I can definitely see Ennis' penchant for being (unnecessarily) graphic haha. Morrison's run is good but it's super dense. I was following a list earlier in this thread, and even with beginning from where Morrison starts, I still felt/feel lost in terms of the grand scheme. I'm hoping things come together soon, though.
I'm completely new to any of his comic book stuff, but I have heard on some podcasts like WordBalloon and Oh, Comics (both awesome podcasts to listen to creators talk shop/anything) about how they're bringing the pre-52 Superman and Fam which sounded interesting. I'll have to pick it up in trade. And I was either going to pick up All Star Superman or Superman For All Seasons. Ah, I hear you, but I enjoyed the hell out of the first issue with one and done of a plane crashing into Gotham. Is the Gotham and Gotham Girl stuff still finding it's footing? Two recs for All-Star Superman, so looks like I'll have to pick that up soon. And looks like Flash will have to be added to that list. Anyone stoked for season 3 of The Flash? Really love the tv series. I have never read any Morrison and that's all I've ever heard about him. That his stuff will make you feel a bit lost, but I've never read any of his work. Hopefully, they do come together and you enjoy his run.
Superman For All Seasons is worth it just for the gorgeous Tim Sale art. He also illustrated Superman: Kryptonite, which isn't as good but still good and similarly great visually. You can't do better with the character than All-Star Superman, though. Not only is it the perfect Superman story, it's also in my top 3 DC books of all time (along with New Frontier and Batman: Year One). Any time I see someone either say they want to get into the character or call him boring, I immediately bring it up, lol.
The plane scene was badass; that was a fantastic intro for the series, but I wish each issue was holding up like that. Gotham heroes have been given some more depth, but I'm still torn on them. Love that show. Can't wait for live-action Flashpoint! Still gotta pick up New Frontier! I loved the animated movie but I need to read/see Cooke's work on paper.
The animated movie is easily my favorite DC has done, but the actual comic is (obviously) even better. I adore Darwyn Cooke and stand by this being his best work. Any time you feel like superheroes have become too depressing, it's a perfect read to lift your spirits.
This comic shop I love just had New Frontier as their book club book. I need to read Year One again because I liked it, but I don't love it like a lot of people do. I love what it did for the character, but I wasn't a massive fan of it. Then again, I have some animosity for Miller because I thought Daredevil: Born Again was so terrible. Oh really, damn, that's a bummer. They're only on Issue #3 right? Why torn on them? I'm planning on picking up the trade when it's out. Been picking up the first issue of a bunch of stuff. Just got home from The Comic Stash with Wonder Woman #1, The Flash #1, and Batgirl: Birds of Prey #1. Stoked! It's going to be epic! Have you heard the news of Batwoman, Oracle, and Constantine (more) appearances on the CW shows?! I wonder if it'll tie into that at all. Either way, so incredibly excited.
Finally finished Limbo. Really enjoyed it. Got sidetracked re-reading Scott Pilgrim. Now reading Scarlet vol 1.
I'm on issue #47 of Ultimate Spiderman and the question that's been creeping in my mind I what do I read in between Ultimate Spiderman (which lasts #133 issues before changing names???) and Ultimate Spiderman: Miles Morales?
Yep! King's premise is instead of Batman meeting a new villain, what if new heroes came to Gotham? I dig that idea, but the buildup's felt slow until the end of the last issue. Awesome picks, enjoy! Nope, that's awesome! I found it tough juggling just Flash, Arrow, and Legends, but now I have to catch up on Supergirl (never watched on CBS since they don't have a Hulu deal) and then watch all four, too?! Ugh too much! What a great problem to have, haha.
I just jumped right back into Miles Morales since I had read some of it before. So also interested in this answer.
I believe after Ultimate Spidey was the Ultimate Fallout mini-series, which was the bridge to Miles' book. However, the book also provides the bridge to Spencer's Ult X-Men and Hickman's Ultimates. So it is isn't entirely Spider-Man focused.
Ah! I am sorry, I misunderstood your question. Ultimate Fallout bridges Peter's final issue with Miles. But to your question, as I now understand it, Ultimate Spider-Man got relaunched after #133 due to the events in Ultimatum. So, there is a brand new #1, confusingly called Ultimate Spider-Man. For my purposed, I will refer to this as Ultimate Spider-Man v2. This lasts for like 15 issues, and then Ultimate Spider-Man v1 numbering returns for #150, which then ends at #160. After #160 is when you should read Ultimate Fallout. Judging by your "67" number, I am sure you are confused by Ultimate Spider-Man #200 being out there. To reach 200, Marvel included all the various Ultimate Spider-Man issues (both v1 & 2), all of the Miles Ultimate Spider-man comics, and a few Ultimate Spidey mini-series like Ultimate Six, and Cataclysm. So, Peter issues run = Ult Spidey v1 1-133, v2 1-15, v1 150-160. Then comes Ult Fallout. Followed by Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man (Miles) = 1-28.
Lmao I understand thanks but that's really confusing lmao do you have any idea if they bound those 15 issues of "vol 2" in trade form?
It is incredibly confusing and easily one of the most frustrating things about the Big Two. They insist on a numbering system, but then reboot and relaunch like crazy, which makes the numbering system nearly incomprehensible. And the funny part is that the Ultimate Universe was meant to be a direct response to the convoluted continuity problems in the mainstream Marvel U. Of course, it eventually fell into the exact same traps. They did collect the 15 issues in a trade. I know the "Death of Peter Parker" HC includes those issues.
