Guess this is the place to put this, the Russo Bros are developing a Deadly Class TV series. Deadly Class Comic Adapted As TV Series From Russo Bros, Rick Remender | Deadline
Just read Black Hammer #1 by Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston. It feels like an indie Justice League through the lens of a familial drama. I can't wait for the next issue!
So Kickass torrents is gone, possibly for good.....gonna be a huge blow to the comic community. I must track down Nemesis43 to his next home.
Looks like there's a mirror site up here: KAT - Kickass Torrents Who knows how long it'll last, though.
Lots of stuff missing there too. Nemesis43's backlog was great for checking out arcs and volumes from long ago. He's pretty much the way I became such a huge comic fan to begin with. ANYWAYS, DC Rebirth kills it on all fronts again this week. Hellblazer and Birds of Prey are both of too promising starts, and Green Arrow, Batman, and Green Lanterns all continue to be great as well. The biggest surprise for me though, is that Superdad is my favorite comic right now, which is something I never in a million years would've expected. I always found Superman to not be very compelling, and outside of animation, just boring and uninteresting as hell. But Superdad changes that all for me, not sure why. I just wish he kept the Superbeard haha. I can't wait for Civil War II to be over. Dragged down almost every book. Only the ones that haven't been involved are keeping me interested. Also, Inhumans still suck.
Ah gotcha. I think getcomics.info has a ton of stuff. I typically feel bad downloading stuff, but like you mentioned, some of the older stuff is good to check out. Especially when it's hard to find in stores. I'm iffy on Hellblazer going forward simply because it's through DC and not Vertigo so I'm wondering if that'll limit what they do with it. But I enjoyed the stories for both, too.
Nope. Civil War II is great. Every time I see anyone say otherwise, I feel like I'm in the Emperor's New Clothes, lol. So dang bizarre. Snot Girl is so rad. I'm already hooked. That ending came out of nowhere, but I'm kinda alright with it. Why can't Green Lanterns have decent art? It's Poison Ivy all over again: a DC comic with good writing and a character I really like and want more of, but also an artist who I don't like and a dozen lame fill-in artists per single issue that bring it down even further. I like Jessica Cruz enough to stick around for now, but my gosh, get your act together, art department! I definitely like Superman's writing and art a lot but am trade waiting. I definitely don't like Batman outside of Jordie Bellaire's gorgeous colors.
I wasn't sold by the first issue, especially after having read the "first" issue of Detective. All I've read of Tom King's work is part of Vision, which is great (I'm waiting for the collected Omega Men before reading it but am also looking forward to it), but something about this Batman story just feels... Meh. I didn't care for the whole airplane thing, and while the idea of new heroes in Gotham with lofty, unrealistic goals could be cool, I don't like the ones we got. I will say that this is the best David Finch's art has looked since New Avengers by Bendis, actually maybe ever. I'm not sure if he got a new inker or if Jordie Bellaire is just a miracle worker, but in a weird twist of fate, I actually mostly like looking at these pages.
I'm totally with you on Superman! I'm surprised at much I'm enjoying it, but then I remember that Tomasi and Gleason did N52 Batman & Robin and that book was so touching. As sad as I was to see Capullo and Snyder go, I was excited for a new run of Batman to follow. I only read up to Death of the Family during Snyder's run, but it felt purposeful from the get-go whereas something with King is lacking. I've heard awesome things about The Sheriff of Babylon, Vision, and Omega Men, but this first arc seems a little weird. Nevertheless, I'm loving the humor that King's thrown in (especially Aflred's neverending sass).
I hear ya on this one completely. I loved Constantine, but the art for the new Hellblazer feels overly goofy which I understand Constantine is, but it's too much. It's the same problem I had with the run they did just before 52. The art in the Ray Fawkes/Jeff Lemire run had a gravity to it that fits perfectly and I feel like they keep missing the mark.
Also! I started a comics review blog (I know, who hasn't?)! I did a short review for Black Hammer #1 and would be curious to what you guys thought? Black Hammer #1 Review: "Jeff Lemire, Dean Ormston, and Dave Stewart (comics) come together to make your next favorite superhero mystery filled with grit and nostalgia in a country purgatory. A wonderfully dark, uneasy read that defies the bright, “one-two punch,” superhero aesthetic we’ve come to know. While lingering on moments of great tension to test both a character or reader's restraint." Inherent Comics EDIT: If you ever want to submit something to the blog that'd be rad! Would love to start a little online community!
Ended up finishing Ultimate Spider-Man last night. Despite it being an older comic, glad I didn't have any spoilers on it because I don't think I was expecting much of what happened in the last handful of episodes. That said, I really did love the run. Now I'll just need to decide what to start next hah.
Been meaning to check that out. Just found Spiderman: Blue and Hulk Gray in a used been so thinking of starting that Spiderman soon. Have your read East of West? I'm sure you have, but that is one of the most satisfying series out right now. The fifth volume is insane!
I actually haven't read East of West yet. Trying not to spend even more money right now so I'm likely just going to get through what I have before buying anything more than the Rebirth one shots for now. Plus, I have Marvel Unlimited so that can keep me busy for a long time haha.
Totally get on it when you get a chance! That or Pretty Deadly (another western type of deal) since there's only one volume out and one coming. Is Marvel Unlimited worth it? I've been playing with the idea of getting a comixology unlimited account. Enjoying the trial so far.
I have both of those on my list to check out! I love it. The Spidey run I just read was 133 issues and I blew through it in like 2 weeks on MU. So for $69 a year I already got my money's worth. There's so much on there that I find it hard for it to not be worth it. I tried out the free trial for Comixology Unlimited, but only being able to read volume one's was a bit of a bummer for me.
Awesome! Followed on Tumblr and I'll definitely be submitting in the future! Been reading a ton of comics this summer/year. :)
That is a total bummer. I was all stoked to be reading all those first volumes though, but it'd be cool if there was more content of different series. I'll have to check out Marvel Unlimited. I'm so behind on everything (because I started reading comics like a year ago.) Hey! Thanks man, and totally! Would love to get that name going. What stuff you been reading lately? Also, anyone invested in the Marvel Civil War II stuff? I couldn't get into the previews I got on FCD. But I was turned off with Bendis after reading his Guardians stuff. It felt so rushed.
Yeah same. I really only started getting into it when I had a job last year, which I quit at the end of the year and still haven't found anything steady all of this year. So that's why I figured I'll stick with MU and any good deals I can find.
Seconding this question. I really enjoyed the first issue. Haven't had a chance to check out anything else. Makes total sense! Let me know if you ever check out WeirdWorld by Aaron. Really want to see if it's worth it.
