Just finished JL Rebirth and I liked the writing but did feel very eh about the art. Probably won't be one I end up collecting but I do want to get into some of the JL stories. Any recommendations?
MU app update came out today and we can finally mark comics as read. Even if it takes them a while, it's nice to see them really try to keep improving on the app.
I didn't mind the art? It was clearly sloppy and rushed in places, but I generally enjoyed it. The reading experience further piqued my interest in Hitch's recent, apparently not quite yet finished JLA run. Ha, I love the art in Year 100. I don't have the trade yet but want it. The thing looks crazy in the best way.
I still enjoyed the story but I think I prefer to check out some previous Justice League stories since all I've really read is one of the Injustice trades with those characters.
This week had new issues of Paper Girls, Spider-Woman, and Silver Surfer, which are three of my four absolute favorite books on shelves right now (alongside Ms Marvel). So, it was a great week for comics. I liked Paper Girls' first arc a decent bit, especially for the gorgeous art, but so far this second arc has been even better. Young and old Erin interacting is the best, and the end of this issue had quite the gripping development. I legitimately can't wait to see what happens next! Spider-Woman is giving Ms Marvel and Silver Surfer a run for their money as far as my favorite Marvel book is concerned. This Civil War II angle isn't as perfect as that flawless baby arc was, but that's only 'cause the bar was really high. Jess in a snowsuit version of her new outfit? Unknowing cannibalism? Love it. Plus, the character dynamics are all so good. Silver Surfer is just generally fabulous. Nothing in particular to say about this issue, except that it continues Slott and the Allreds' immaculate run. I never leave an issue without the sense of joy that only the best of comics can give me.
All I've read is the first volume of New 52, which I disliked enough to not want to read more of that run, and A League of One, which I liked a lot but is essentially a Wonder Woman story. Oh, and also the beginning of the Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire run, which is perfection, but it's a very different beast. Besides continuing Giffen/DeMatteis/Maguire's run, I think I'm personally most interested in the Morrison/Waid era. Though, I am interested in Bryan Hitch's JLA.
I'll have to check that run out. Volume 5 of the Morrison/Waid run has been in a half off bin for a while at my LCS so I may snag that next time I'm in.
INVINCIBLE IRON MAN will be written by Brian Michael Bendis, illustrated by Stefano Caselli, and star Riri Williams, Rhodey's 15-yr-old niece. INFAMOUS IRON MAN will be written by Brian Michael Bendis, illustrated by Alex Maleev, and star Victor Von Doom. I only read one issue of International Iron Man and dropped Invincible Iron Man when Civil War II, which I'm reading, started. But, I'm so in for both of these titles. Riri seems like an awesome character, and I straight up love Doom. Dang it, Marvel.
I'm still reading not following any series as religiously as you guys are unfortunately so this post might get lost in the thread but I'm gonna update what I'm reading and read regardless. I made a pretty nice book haul thsee past few weeks and picked up: Batman Vol. 7 (finally) The Oath Ultimate Spiderman Vol. 1 Vol. 2 Vol. 3 Vol. 6 Vol. 7 Vol. 8 (6,7,8 and not 4 and 5 because they were extremely cheap at a "thrift" store) Saga Vol. 2 I Hate Fairyland Masterworks Vol. 1 Golden Age Marvel Comics I've already read/ am reading The Oath My first full Dr. Strange experience and I absolutely loved it. The storyline was so well laid out and had the best story of something I've read in quite a while. I'm definitely going to grab more of his material. Ultimate Spiderman Vol. 1 It's what I expected. I love Spiderman but I've never really read his full story lines. So since I can't afford the Masterworks of the 616 spiderman (which I wanted to read first) I grabbed these. I Hate Fairyland It looked really fun so I picked it up and I honestly never expected it to be this good. I never loved Skotties art like most until I actually read this book. The art was so so so pretty when it needed to be but dark when needed as well. The story was very well written and very fun and I'm really excited to see where it goes in vol. 2 House of M I'm slowly working my way through this still. I really like it and I don't understand why I put it down before. I'm on issue #5 and very curious to see how things become resolved because the situation kinda seems hopeless at the moment. Masterworks Golden Age Slowly going through this. It's not something I was excited to read nessecarily I just wanted to experience it. Howard the Duck Complete Collection Vol. 1 Yes I'm still reading this. Yes I'm almost done. It's been my "meh when I'm feeling it" book for quite a while now.
Very stoked for this. I suppose I should go finish the original run now... I apparently read the first two trades and somehow forgot to finish it haha.
My daughter has been big on Wonder Woman lately. Not sure how... we had a custom made outfit made for her and went out for a photo session last night.
I kinda hope Bendis drops GOTG for JJ. I'm interested in both Iron Man books, I can't wait for more Bendis Jessica, and I don't want him to leave Miles any time soon. But, I don't think I want him on 5+ books and don't care for what I've read of his GOTG work.
Surely it's gotta get to a point where he's just stretched too thin and can't come up with fresh and decent ideas for all these characters. You're probably right though, he's gotta drop some.
Love coming home to packages I didn't know about/forgot. Finally went to the apartment front office to pick up Clean Room, which I knew was there and they came out with 2 additional packages, haha. One was a kickstarted comic and the other was a Transistor figure.
