Want to get your guys' opinion on something! I'm trying to get better at expanding HiFi Noise beyond just music since I do have things like comics, sports, and film/tv in the nav bar. What kinds of comics posts do you tend to enjoy most? I'm shooting for more editorial stuff instead of just news posts. I'm thinking of starting a cross topic feature called Retrospective where I write about some of the older comics, music, movies I check out and see how they still hold up today. Are there any types of posts you'd like to read but maybe think are missing from comics sites?
I had to put it down for a while. I'm glad I didn't give up on it because I like the direction it took. Ordered some books. Spiderwoman #1 Patsy Walker #1 Art Ops #1 Clean Room #1 Nailbiter #2 Ringside #1 Sex Criminals #3
I like the Retrospective idea. I also like the idea of definitive stories or character premiers. I mostly go to comic sites for news, admittedly. lol
Hah same honestly, which is why I want to try something new and see how people like it. Could you expand a little more on the definitive stories and character premieres? Are you thinking along the lines of deep dives into single characters/stories?
I like the idea of comparing a first appearance to the current iteration of the character. As for definitive stories, CBR just ran an article on the most important Detective Comics stories. I like the idea of that a lot.
Civil War II #2 was good. I liked the idea that Ulysses could have biases that affect his visions, even if it's not followed up/shown to be the case. Also, I will praise Marquez+Ponsor with literally every issue; the art is absolutely gorgeous. This issue's ending, I think, confirms that Banner dies next issue. Knew it.
Gotcha. I'll definitely share whatever I end up starting here! It'll likely be at least a couple weeks so I can put the time into it.
I'd like to see, for characters with inconsistent characterizations like Poison Ivy, something that covers a lot of major iterations.
Does JRJR have the same inker and colorist for All-Star Batman as he did on TDKR: Last Crusade? I didn't read Last Crusade yet, but flipping through, it's the best his art has looked in a while. I'd love if ASB had the same look.
There's a chance if I did go this route that I'd start with Marvel just since Unlimited allows me to deep dive into basically every character. Would be more difficult for me to buy a ton of physical trades/issues right now for DC since a good chunk of what I have is just Batman right now haha.
I think he has the whole first arc and someone else has the whole last arc, and then the middle arc is a rotating cast? Plus some artists doing back-up stories?
Finished New 52's Suicide Squad run, not the New SS. It was pretty good. Harley is the obvious highlight and she doesn't disappoint.
Disappointing to hear. At least she was basically the driving force of the SS run so she got plenty of time to shine. I love the way she just betrays people and does crazy shit because she's bored, ha
Just popping in to remind everyone that if you haven't read Bendis' Ultimate Spider-Man, you're missing out. Apologies if this is like a "well, duh" statement - I've only been into comics for a few months. Got the Marvel Unlimited subscription and have been bouncing around with titles trying to find something that really clicked. Wowzers. About 90 issues into the USM while on vacation and its one of the best things I've read in years. Anyway, sorry to interrupt.
I'm not sure what it is about DC: Rebirth, but goddamn every week I am looking forward to these new titles and so far they've all captivated me. Fucking DC man doing things right. Meanwhile Marvel seems to be stumbling. Apocalypse Wars has been lame as fuq, and Civil War isn't really doing much for me. The books that haven't directly tied into the event so far have been way better. Amazing Spider-man, Deadpool, Mercs for Money, and Astonishing Ant-man have been great.
Just finished Dark Night: A True Batman Story and really enjoyed it. Will be getting a review up of it tomorrow.
As much as I hate how much Marvel is pushing Inhumans, I've gotta say they finally got me to love a couple of them. I've started following Uncanny Inhumans to get my fix of Reader, and Karnak is obviously fantastic. Those are the two Inhumans that I legitimately love. Such cool characters.
