I think I mean more in terms of scope and size? I dunno. I like some of the characters, I just always felt like they should be bigger and bolder, given their title.
Hmm. I am not sure I understand what you are referring too haha. But what's interesting is that the whole Fourth World stuff was intended by JK to be a mini-series. Those characters were never meant to expand into the wider DCU. DC only made that call later and it kind of strained Kirby's plans. But I think the central concept of the two worlds and Darkseid / Orion is just awesome.
I mostly mean in relation to the people of Earth. When you see Orion and Miracle on earth, they just kind of seem like regular people. When I see Kirby's work and think New Gods, I think these towering beings similar to the way the Celestials are. And it isn't really surprising DC screwed over a creator by making their product mainstream DCU. Hell, look what happened just last week. Hah.
I really enjoy Kirby's Marvel stuff and loved the New Gods from the DCAU, so I'm excited for whatever fantasy/trippiness might be in store. Just called my LCS and they have three of the four omnibuses in stock. Not only am I going for Rebirth but now these, too! Thanks for the suggestion!
I have the two trades of that she's in and read the first so far. It's not great or anything, but Poison Ivy is really cool in it, so it's cool just for that. Though, she's darker in that than she is in her current mini. I think Amy Chu's take is my favorite so far, though for villainous takes, the old issue of Secret Origins with her by Neil Gaiman rocks.
Just got back from my LCS. Went with Superman and Batman for Rebirth this week. I'll collect whatever ones I end up enjoying in trades later. I'll most likely also pick up WW and Flash next week.
I wish we could be surprised with a Marvel story. Since it's announcement we basically knew who was going to bite the dust in Civil War II.
I really liked the writing of her in JLA and JLU. Not sure if he wrote both of those. I should really pick up the first books he did of hers.
I've never read anything about her I don't think but I think the story behind her existence is absolutely amazing and sentimental and seeing how big of a character she's become is really cool to see. I think his sister would be proud.
Final Crisis is nearly impenetrable without a good grasp of DC history and understanding of the characters.
I had a good grasp and it was difficult haha. Honestly, after each issue I just read some of the awesome annotations that were out there at the time.
Just picked up all 4 rebirth titles today. Why is the "Master of Kung Fu vol. 1" hardcover 125 fucking dollars. My LCS is kind of pissed with how Marvel packages and prices their trades. He showed me a ton of comparable hardcover collections the same size and roughly page count from other publishers for less than half that price. I would love to read it but that is way too expensive.
There was a guy who wrote for CBR, if I remember correctly, who had these awesome recaps. It really made each issue come alive. It was a really rewarding experience haha.
I'll keep that in mind before I dive into it. I just have the main trade and wasn't really planning on getting into the tie-ins.
The tie-ins are not really that pertinent. At least not the Rogue's Revenge, Legion of 3 Worlds, or the Revelations ones. The exception would be those 2 Superman Beyond books.
Yeah the trade I bought includes Final Crisis #1-7, Superman Beyond #1-2 and Submit #1 so that's convenient hah.
