grabbed the 2nd issue of Destruction Be Our Lot after a recommendation from a friend and had to order issue 1, looking forward to getting to it. i think i vaguely remember seeing a cool teaser video for it a little bit ago but forgot about it. I'll look into the others, thanks!
I’ll second Minotaur as one to watch for. Si Spurrier isn’t for everyone. But he’s definitely for me.
the Absolute stuff is just quality all around. got a little catching up to do but I've read a fair amount already. Really really loving Dragotta's art especially on Batman
I’m apprehensive about Legion because I find Williamson’s DC work so bland and annoying, with fanboy sensibilities that could be terrible for Legion. However… Hayden Sherman is the most exciting new artist in Big 2 comics by a wide margin. And the art shared so far is so good! Tamra Bonvillain colors and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou letters, too. It makes Legion look cooler (if nothing else) than it has since… maybe Giffen??? Also, I’m glad it’s a completely fresh start, instead of some kinda new “retroboot” lol. Hoping that Williamson doing whatever nonsense he did with a “Darkseid Legion” (sigh) in Superman got his worst inclinations out of his system, and that he sets Sherman up to really thrive.
kinda making it a part of my schedule to hit my LCS on Wednesdays at opening. think I should probably start a pull box with them
If you’re a regular, or even semi-regular, and they offer a pull box, then yeah. I think you should. Partly so you don’t miss anything, and partly because preorders help shops know what to order.
for sure, just now getting to the point where I'm talking to the shop owner when I go in and she recognizes me haha. lots of cool ongoing stuff so seems worthwhile
I find Williamson less offensive than you, though your criticisms are valid. He is quite bland. I just think my threshold for mediocre writing is higher than yours lol. Particularly where Williamson tends to get the macro character elements mostly right. Like for Superman, his run is mediocre/uninteresting but I do think he generally gets the character of Superman correct. Far too many mediocre writers get employed at the big two who aren’t even capable of that. It’s a low bar for me is what I’m ultimately trying to say haha. And in the end, Legion are one of a few titles where fandom wins out over anything else for me. It’s dumb but I just want the Legion in my life. I’ve found joy in every iteration, and I’m sure I’ll find joy in this one.
Even Bendis? I’m in the minority that thinks Bendis Superman was more good than bad, with higher highs than the runs before and after, that doesn’t deserve the hate some give it. But, I’d have trouble going to bad for his Legion take, lol (outside of thinking sending Jon there was theoretically a smart choice).
I won’t go to bat for Bendis. On the whole, he isn’t my cup of tea; and worse yet, I think DC got him at possibly his creative ebb. Legion is not really an exception to that opinion. But I like Jon Kent and Ryan Sook’s art was fun to look at. In the end, I think I was just hopeful that DC were putting such a big name on Legion. It was short lived obviously, but at the time I hoped it might augur a re-investment in Legion. I was wrong, but that was still exciting.
