Do you guys think any creatives actually make money off Alias ebooks anymore other than the guys up top? Should I feel bad if Bendis doesn't get pennies from me? Lol. I think it's insane that it isn't in Marvel Unlimited, which I do pay for, despite never using it. Just rewatched Jessica Jones S1 for the first time since it came out and forgot how much I loved it. I think it's better than every season of the entire Charlie Cox Daredevil series, which I also love.
Morrison imo is the greatest comic writer of all time, one of the most original thinkers of our time, and a personal hero. Good call
I've been following several of my favorite comic creators on Instagram, one of whom is Zoe Thorogood, and I often wonder, is it weird that she's dating an older man, or is the truly weird thing the fact that ppl are making such a big deal out of the age gap between two consenting grown ass adults. They look cute together, in a way that I personally don't find as screaming "groomer." Like damn mind your own business sheesh. I guess ppl online just need something to be mad about smh
I know I’m late to the party, but finally am working my way through the Absolute line. Absolute Batman isn’t quite speaking to me yet, but that may change as the payoff for all the setup comes through. Absolute Wonder Woman however is fantastic and something special. I love everything about that book. Martian Manhunter and Superman are next up.
Tbh I’ve really liked to loved all of the absolute stuff. Holding out on doing issues as they come out and waiting for volumes. Getting a bunch later this year.
what are some ongoing non-DC/Marvel series you guys are following written by women? i just realized, now that Roots of Madness by Stephanie Williams has ended, the only one I'm currently pulling is Monstress by Marjorie Liu as for upcoming stuff i'm looking forward to, Ignition Press has Sickos by Tini Howard in July, followed by Prima Apparata by Olivia Dufault in September; Boom has Gastronomique by Marguerite Bennett in August; Image has Chachu by Iman Vellani, also in August
I’m pretty sure Marian Heretic is an ongoing series that’s just taking a break between arcs. Besides that one, I think all my non-Big 2 comics I’m reading by women are miniseries. Exploit has been pretty cool. Cowritten by Laura Hudson and Tim Leong, with art by Emiliana Pinna. 4-issue miniseries published by Mad Cave Studios, which just has one issue left (though I haven’t gotten to 3 yet). Cool journalist, anti-tech bro comic with a sapphic lead. The first issue of Seven Wives, a crime miniseries written by Zoe Tunnell for IDW, was a promising start. I don’t like that it doesn’t look like the creators have any ownership with this IDW line, but Tunnell is a cool trans writer who deserves more work than token Pride special shorts, so. Glad to see her work in this genre. Very excited Heaven, the upcoming graphic novel by cartoonist Katie Skelly. It’s been too long since the last Skelly graphic novel. I adore her art style; very loose and minimal, but also so attractive imo. Also agree with you on being excited for Sickos and Chachu. And I’ll also for sure give at least the first issue of Prima Apparata a shot; seems like such a cool, weird premise for a comic. Forgot about Gastronomique. Oh, and for whatever it’s worth, the most recent issue of Gunslinger Spawn (I think it’s #54?) was the start of Erica Schultz taking over as writer. That’s an ongoing outside of the big 2 that’s now written by a woman, though I know Spawn is an acquired taste. Curious what she does with it (especially as part of an initiative that also has Matt Rosenberg taking over the main Spawn series). Honorable mention to a miniseries that just started this week that I think you’d like, even though the writer and artist are both (gay) men. Did You Here About Mimi Green? by Connor Goldsmith and Josh Cornillon is off to such an exciting start. Surreal body horror with sapphic lead who’s kind of a bitch (which is kind of a big part of the story). Cornillon’s art is so cool, nailing both the character stuff and the horror stuff.
Video game adaptation of TMNT: The Last Ronin just got officially announced at Summer Game Fest. Same team behind Bayonetta.
So it was my birthday back on the 6th and my brother surprised me today with these. Now I get to pretend I've read even more comic books!
Pen... Go get a library card or something. pick up some DC Compacts. stop pretending to be a comic fan and just be one!
Great release day today. Really enjoying the new Daredevil run, Fury of Firestorm is cool as hell, Avengers Armageddon/Bishop/Absolute Catwoman with great starts.
Those big books are so fun! I have a Superman encyclopedia from DK from when I was a kid and I still thumb through it occasionally. Y'know, if you're looking for recommendations, this thread is a great place for that!
I love the Compact Comics! I always wanted to read Watchmen, but not for $30, so it was great to pick it up for $10. It's also been nice to check out stuff that's outside of my wheelhouse. I picked up the compact Far Sector and it blew me away!
they're too small for me and i'd already committed to collecting trades of any runs i would've otherwise gotten the compacts for but i'm glad other ppl like them, it's such a great entry point.
Should’ve also gotten you this so that you could pretend to know queer characters: But yeah, those DC compacts rule. Some of them have lettering that, when shrunk down to that size, are a little too much for my eyeballs. But, some are more “readable” to my aging ass. And, they sell really well at my shop. Marvel last week did a collection of Spider-Man Brand New Day issues at that size that they actually let be only $9.99 like the compacts. And we sold those pretty quickly, too.
https://leagueofcomicgeeks.com/profile/iamtaylorrr/collection got caught up on my league of comic geeks collection tracking. makes my brain happy. definitely lacking on indies though
Very excited about the current state of DC. The Asbolute line has been fun. And we are getting a LOSH book and a Teen Titans book. Not to mention there is supposed to be an Etrigan book on the horizon. All of these things please me.
what are some ongoing indies people are loving right now? bonus points if it's early in the run so I can find the issues easily :)
I haven’t read it yet, but I’m eager to read the first issues of If Destruction Be Our Lot. I’ve also heard good things about the new batch of Vertigo books (to the extent those count as indie titles.) Chris Condon has a new book with Charlie Adlard, Of the Earth, that is only one issue in.
If Destruction Be Our Lot just dropped its second issue this week (haven’t gotten to it yet). Image ongoing series that the creative team has a big head start on, written by Matt Rosenberg and his brother with art by Andy MacDonald. Liked the first issue a whole lot. I’ve already mentioned this one here, but the 4-issue miniseries Did You Hear About Mimi Green? (by Connor Goldsmith and Cornillon at Dark Horse) is just one issue in and off to an intriguing start. And if you want some series on your radar that haven’t started yet, that I’m planning to read, there are two from Ignition Press I’m really excited for: Sicko by Tini Howard and Amilcar Pinna, and Minotaur by Simon Spurrier and Michael Dowling.
