I've been moving this week and comics are so heavy. I might have to try to downsize my collection before the next time i move.

I worry about that with my comics, and also my CD/vinyl collection, and my DVD/bluray collection... good thing I don't plan on moving anytime soon...

Now that I think about it, it's kind of amazing that I've managed to keep everything in just my bedroom so far. I more or less just need to keep things in their shelves (and replace them with bigger shelves as needed haha). Alllll my other belongings tho, that's a huge mess that I don't know what to do with

  5. now that i'm on volume 4 i realize i'd only finished volume 3 before. i thought i'd gotten farther. i don't mind rereading it tho. despite how dense it is, the writing is super captivating, and ofc the art is absolutely amazing.

while the writing of Monstress is far wider in scope, i feel like Maika and Erica are similar in a couple ways. they want to save as many people as possible but without having to deal with all the bullshit politics that get in the way. Maika is more of a reluctant hero, tho. more than wanting to end the war, she mostly just wants to be left alone while she searches for answers about her past. in that regard, Erica is the more sentimental hero, her whole thing is that she, like her teacher, lets the job get to her emotionally instead of closing herself off from it like everyone else in the order seems to have. i love both protagonists tho, and i love that both series are horror fantasy, one set in a world much like ours and the other set in a world entirely filled with mystical beings and gods.

tldr i've been really really enjoying reading comics recently

about halfway through the Cates Venom omnibus and having a great time. Incredible art, compelling story, really interesting tie-in issues (Ve'Nam was awesome!). Having a great time.

Outside of cape stuff, I'm patiently waiting for Volume 4 of Saga to drop as I stopped keeping up with the issues considering they've taken a very long time to come out. Hoping the last half of it picks up because the first chunk of issues I wasn't super big on compared to what came before.

Also ordered Immortal Hulk as I heard it was a great modern run.

Immortal Hulk is incredible. Very body horror, and very book of Job. Lots of cool ideas.

  11. Monstress is incredible, I'm constantly in awe. I'm about eight issues from being caught up, the last three or four volumes especially have been one jaw dropping moment after another. The lore and world building is so rich, the characters so fleshed out. And don't even get me started on the art. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it in a comic book. Everything from the monster designs to the vast landscapes/cityscapes is simply breathtaking. I almost dread having to wait for issues to drop monthly. Reading ten volumes in a matter of weeks has gotten me feeling so spoiled.

  12. picked up first issue of new Batwoman and first issue of new team of New Titans even tho Steph and Yara only show up on the final page of the issue. really disappointing bc i was so excited. i shouldn't have gotten my hopes up. they (and Jon) are supposed to be the main focus for this new team so i guess we'll see where it goes from here

caught up on Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Superman over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed both. I'm really enjoying the changes to these character's origin stories while still keeping their inherent heroic characteristics that we all know. Superman especially is brutal.

I do have a question though as I'm not well versed in all of their comic runs by any stretch, but for Superman was Ra's al Ghul one of his big villains throughout his history? Always thought he was strictly in Batman, but obviously pretty ignorant.

Definitely not a character generally associated with Superman, yeah. Can’t really think of major stories where they go up against each other before Jason Aaron decided to go that route with Absolute.

I’ve stopped reading Absolute monthly (gonna read the ones I want in trade instead). But the first two arcs of Absolute Wonder Woman were excellent, my pick for the best of the line. Absolute Martian Manhunter is also great, specifically because it’s drawn by Javier Rodríguez, my pick for the best artist working in direct market comics today.

The big 3 I love so far. Flash and Green Lantern have great art but it feels like (at least in their volume 1s) that it’s not clear at all where it’s going.

Currently reading volume 1 of the Bendis run of Daredevil and very much enjoying it. Was able to find the Miller DD and Elektra omnis for a great price so gonna stop and go back when they come in.

Also just started The Department of Truth from Tynion and loving the art and like the premise but very early on.

Oh, also recently read House of X/Power of X to start the Krakoa era of X-Men and I absolutely loved it. Loved the presentation with the lore and description pages. Really intrigued how things are going to play out. Art is very good as well
