I finished the first arc of Something is Killing the Children (I finally got my hands on vols 3-4 so all I have to get now is 8). As expected, this is really, really good. It's heavy without being too dense (whereas Monstress would drop a bunch of lore up front and just continue to do so. I love what I've read of that series so far as well but holy hell it's a lot). The pacing is perfect. Action horror with a lot of heart. Erica is quickly becoming one of my favorite comic book protagonists.
Absolute Posion Ivy looks so cool. Always kinda thought she’d make a great horror character and it’s cool to see someone going all in on that direction
I haven't been reading it but Absolute Batman has such hideous rogues. Then there's Absolute Wonder Woman with Zatanna...
Do I need to pull New Titans now that Steph is gonna be on the team? Barbara Gordon Breakout is gonna be about Babs in prison...???
Someone at DC has been reading my Christmas list. Legion return. Teen Titans return. The Demon solo book. Deadman.
I like that Lian is the daughter of an Asian character (and obv therefore Asian herself) and I really liked Cheetah and Cheshire Rob the Justice League but I have no real emotional connection to her so I probably won't be picking up the Teen Titans. Also I don't think I've read any TT before. Happy for Jason fans after that Red Hood series was canceled tho
Red Hood going from that canceled series by Gretchen Felker-Martin & Jeff Spokes, to overseeing a new class of Teen Titans, is such a pathetic drop, lol. Oh well. This week’s announcements just confirmed my dedication to focusing on non-Big 2 comics. Very interested in that new book at Ignition by Tini Howard and Amilcar Pinna, Sicko. And, James Tynion IV is cowriting a new series with Marguerite Bennett called Odin, art by Letizia Cadonici & Jordie Bellaire. And the return of classic Paul Chadwick character Concrete! And a mini by Sam Humphries, Kelly Sue DeConnick, and Natacha Bustos called Skate Ali, which looks cute.
so many cool ppl are going to c2e2 (chicago) on the same weekend as wondercon (LA where i live) alyssa wong becky cloonan jenny frison mirka andolfo nicole goux stephanie phillips tula lotay zoe thorogood
Didn’t know this channel was here, nice. Thanks Tim. I’ve read some graphic novel series over the past few years (mostly image comics stuff) and some friends started the Absolute stuff and I hadn’t really don’t much if any cape stuff. Went to a local shop tonight for the first time and it was magical and spent too much money.
Those smaller collections have been getting more popular lately. The DC Compact line is especially wild, ‘cause what do you mean I can get all of Watchmen for $10??? How readable they are for my aging eyes varies on the book; Watchmen is one that does read quite well, but some have a font size I just can’t do. I was real tempted to get the Sunstone vol 1 they just did at that size, but didn’t end up doing it (yet). The font there was kinda borderline to me.
On the topic of conventions, 3 Rivers Comicon here in Pittsburgh just announced Howard Mackie, which is neat. Was already planning on reading some of his 90s Ghost Rider for the first time; will have to get to it before the con this summer. Bummed that Amy Chu canceled, but at least I managed to meet her a handful of years ago (she was so nice and fun to talk to), and hopefully she’ll try again next year. Would love to get my Carmilla signed by her.
Kickstarter is live and goal already met in less than 24 hours. Congrats to Waco & Roger! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/waco-roger/paradise-pd-and-farzar-the-final-season-graphic-novel
Absolute Martian Manhunter Vol.1 was awesome. Felt like a fever dream and the art is excellent. Excited to see where I goes. Have acquired all the released Absolute volumes so far so going to make my way through, then hit Gotham Central (this omnibus could incapacitate an intruder if needed). Also getting back into East of West. Definitely wordy but the setting is really cool.
After the new Poison Ivy issue, GWW is receiving death threats...?!?! Fandom spaces can be so fucking dumb
Good news for those of you who read digitally: Love and Rockets, the greatest North American comic series of all time, is available to buy for a steal through Humble Bundle: https://www.humblebundle.com/books/...ollectedhernandezbrosfantagraphics_bookbundle Here’s me talking about it recently:
