Yeah the new take on Green Lantern is very very weird and I like it.

Makes the lanterns feel kinda creepy

finally managed to grab all three issues of Marian Heretic, it's really good!
finished Blink and You'll Miss It. the ending wasn't as good as I'd hoped but it's still a really cool series.
still really enjoying the three Ignition Press titles i've been picking up: Murder Podcast, Roots of Madness, The Beauty
i'm getting Hello Darkness monthly but i need to be in the right mood for it and usually knock out like three issues at once.
i'm trying to get every major appearance of Dreamer, the only issues i need now are Superman Son of Kal El 15 and all of Absolute Power, tho i might just get the trade for the latter. i'm so excited for the Nicole Maines and Jadzia Axelrod collab on Justice League Intergalactic. I was hoping for a series rather than a one shot but I'll take whatever trans rep I can get.

i read a few stories in the Supergirl Next Door special. Nicole Maines writing Harlivy is the coolest thing, i'm so happy for her. i also liked the Supergirl and Wonder Woman stories.
Speaking of Harlivy, the third issue of the Harley & Ivy: Life & Crimes series is super cute. has a really funny fourth wall break.
Absolute Wonder Woman continues to be absolutely perfect. usually when anything constantly jumps between flashbacks and present day i'm more invested in one or the other, but not with this; seeing Diana's time with Circe is always great. I love this version of Zatanna, and i'm so excited to see where this arc goes.
i haven't been reading any DCKO or the Marvel crossovers but from the tiktoks i've seen the stories with the characters i'm actually invested in seem super underwhelming

i've been picking up a lot of books and trades, mostly used. i was really lucky and managed to get both previous Minky Woodcock collections for $8ea, i loved The Girl Called Cthulhu.
i kept seeing Superwoman Rebirth at my store but only ever the first volume, so when i saw a store had all three i snagged all of them. I don't know a lot about Lana Lang, i've seen a bit of Smallville but i doubt that's a good representation of her in the comics. the Superwoman in 2005 Supergirl turned out to be a bad guy so i'm excited to see one or two that's actually hero-ing for once. apparently Lois also had powers in this run? and then died??? comics are weird.
I also got Hex Wives mostly because Mirka Andolfo did the art. I haven't really read a lot of Vertigo despite owning a handful of titles. and I got Monstress vol 10. i think i stopped reading at around vol 4 or 5, i have a lot of catching up to do, but honestly i might just start from the beginning again because it's so dense.

I liked the Absolute Batman annual but that's all I've read

  4. While Absolute WW is a welcome course correction for Diana (everything I've heard about Tom King's run sounds abysmal), Absolute Batman just sounds too much like the try-too-hard-to-be-edgy side of DC

I was thinking about Tim's post about supporting more independent comics. And while I do my fair share, a lot of my TBR is big two stuff rn.

Can someone recommend an indie comic (preferably a tpb or gn) that needs more love?

I've only read whatever bits of Absolute Batman get thrown up on Scans Daily but I totally agree with this sentiment and it's horrible what they did to create "Penguin", "Riddler", and "Two-Face".

On the other hand, I do find it slightly interesting what they're doing with the Joker: Clearly a demon of some sort who by day takes human form and has the mansion, butler, and cave that Batman normally would.

The Power Fantasy by Kieron Gillen and Caspar Wijngaard has two volumes out right now, so that could be a good one to check out. Good different take on the idea of a superhero story, that’s more character forward.

I’m also a big fan of Monkey Meat by Juni Ba, which is an anthology series. The second miniseries, The Summer Batch, was my favorite Image series 2025 (and, because of the anthology approach, could be the first one you try). Satirical, about colonialism & capitalism, etc.

Also was a huge fan of Hello Sunshine by Keezy Young, which is a proper graphic novel (as in, it wasn’t released first as single issues). They’re one of my favorite artists working today; it’s a very good story about mental health with supernatural elements.

Not just the scans daily excerpts from those runs…??? :chin:

But really, which ones did you do?

  11. This is a list of authors I posted months ago in response to someone else so obviously it's not an answer to your specific question but I think it may still prove useful
Also now that I'm looking at it I forgot to add Zoe Thorogood.

Anything you can find by these authors published by Image Boom or First Second is sure to be a good pick methinks

The minis that Maria Llovet has been writing & drawing through Image in recent years have all been great. Usually some kinda erotic thriller, with cool, sexy cartooning that’s a delight to just look at. Love her loose linework and use of colors.

Oh yeah, It’s Lonely At The Centre of the Earth is a great autobiographical graphic novel that I’d happily recommend to anyone. Thorogood’s art is fucking fantastic.

I had a hankerin to reread Bendis and Brubaker, continued through the Shadowland crossover and then through Waid's run. I think I started Soule and then stopped.

I’ve heard that the Disney+ stuff has some elements of the Zdarsky run, so if you get the itch again, that might be worth giving a shot. The few scattered random issues I’ve read from it are good; definitely plan to someday get to it myself.

(And if you’ve never read the Born Again storyline by Miller & Mazzucchelli, which isn’t that long… it’s every bit as excellent as everyone says.)

(And the run by Nocenti and Romita Jr also rules.)

@Tim what's the most ethical place to buy one of those books online?

I mean, my default is to suggest buying from a local comic shop (which may also have an online storefront, depending on what point-of-sale they use; my shop is one of many that utilizes ComicHub). The ecosystem of comic shops is a pretty core part of whether a comic (in this North American “direct market” of comics) succeeds.

But, outside of that, Bookshop.org is a good website to order books, including comics, from.

  21. Sunstone is getting reprinted in smaller format with new covers. same price as dc compact but slightly bigger i think? obv since i already have all the trades this isn't for me but if it helps Stjepan's work reach a wider audience i'm not complaining, i absolutely adore this story.

and yes, i kickstarted the art book.

(conceptually i do like dc compact, especially when they cover more material than a tpb would, but they're just so damn small that it's hard to read.)

It depends on the compact (well, mainly depends on how big the lettering was in the original book). Watchmen compact reads surprisingly well for my old eyes, but when I flipped through All-Star Superman, I was like… nope, can’t do this, lol.

Haven’t gotten around to buying any Sunstone yet, so if I see one of the new editions in person and find it readable enough, I’ll get it.

  23. i have now collected every major appearance of Dreamer! i cheated a little bit and got the trade for Absolute Power instead of the floppies but eh. I love this character so much and I've loved seeing what Nicole does with her in the comics. so excited for her Justice League Intergalactic Special
Absolute Power was... okay. kinda just reaffirmed that i don't like big crossover events. starts off with a cool concept and just doesn't stick the landing for me.
the Absolute Wonder Woman Annual is gorgeous. such a nice story and a--pardon the pun--wonderful portrayal of Diana
the most recent Batgirl story arc is kinda rough, i'm so glad that's over. i know i keep saying this but i really don't like that they introduced a secret brother. aside from that, there were some cool moments with Nyssa and with a couple of other new characters that were introduced. I'm cautiously optimistic about Cass supposedly having bloodbending powers in the next issue
Supergirl, Poison Ivy, and Harley and Ivy: Life and Crimes continue to be delightful.
I wasn't aware the new Sirens mini was gonna be Black Label. not that I'm complaining. speaking of which, Tini and Babs are doing a signing tomorrow and I'm gonna try to go!

    Jealous.

I’m waiting for this Sirens mini to be done & collected to read it. But, I did flip through the first issue the other day, and dang, it’s nice to see Babs Tarr interiors again.
