Tillie Walden rules, though I’ve spent less time with her work than I should. Got On a Sunbeam taunting me on my shelf, alongside so many other comics that I consider essential reading for myself.

Good on Kirkman (whose work I haven’t clicked with) for getting such a notable talent for his Walking Dead spin-off.

Can’t remember if I mentioned it here and too lazy to check, but I really adored Tom King’s Supergirl series Woman of Tomorrow. It’s the “you vs the dude she told you not to worry about” meme with the CW show. Kara is such a great character to get deep with

That was great. I loved the pov character. She had such a perfect melodramatic/comedic at times voice. I think she could narrate any adventure and I’d be super happy

I’m wildly hit-or-miss with Tom King, but I’ve seen enough praise of his Supergirl from people with a variety of tastes that I probably need it in my Super collection. Bilquis Evely sure is a brilliant illustrator.

The art is a treasure. Some pages, like the packed ship ride, have stuck in my brain forever. Hilarious, heartwarming, intense, whatever the scene needs its illustrated beautifully.

I’m gonna make my list probably at the end of the week, but Do a Powerbomb! will definitely be very high. Probably #2. What an absolutely excellent series.

I'm a filthy trade waiter, but I had a good haul of comics this week:

    - Nightwing Vol. 2: Get Grayson (second trade of the Taylor run)
    - Miles Morales Vol. 8 (Last volume of Ahmed's run)
    - Trials of X Vol. 3
    - Once & Future Vol. 5

And I read Kate Beaton's Ducks last night, which was worth all of the praise.

All really great pick ups. I need to re-read Once & Future now it’s finished.

I was gonna grab Beaton’s Ducks when B&N had their 2-day 50%-off-all-hardcovers sale, but it was gone. I’m sure I’ll get it and be like “it’s brilliant and worth every ounce of hype!!!” eventually.

Speaking of hype, spoiler alert: Zoe Thorogood’s It’s Lonely at the Centre of the Earth is my #1 of the year, like I expected. If you haven’t check it out yet, do so asap! Brilliantly drawn, made me tear up and also laugh a lot.

  13. Oh, I bought Rain because the cover looked nice (and gay). Good pick?

I haven’t read that one yet, but I’ve heard it’s very good, and the art I’ve seen from it is brilliant (like Thorogood always is). I don’t know how it ends, but the premise is, from what I understand, based in horror & tragedy, so keep that in mind, lol. It’s adapted from a Joe Hill story.

Rain is very good! Just missed out on my best of list. It’s sad, but really good.

There’s a version of this that’s technically partially true, but Liefeld in particular wording it this way is very funny. (Based on other tweets, reading some old McFarlane Spidey comics prompted this.)

Rob’s such a corny character, lol, who I have such a love-hate relationship with.

Oh the tweet's from that guy? I've seen tiktoks making fun of his style haha

I mean, yeah, he has a point, but it can only go so far

Rob’s a shamelessly juvenile and combative dork, and his loose, quick style has led to a lot of shit that’s easy to mock. He has a very narrow way of both drawing and thinking. In some ways he represents some of my least favorite versions of comic and superhero fandom.

But, I honestly find a bunch of his stuff (particularly in the early 90s, like the X-Force issues I had as a kid) very compelling in a visceral kinda way. I mean, my current avatar is his thinly veiled Wonder Woman analogue, Glory, lol.

It’s too bad the brashness that makes his better comics work so fun also makes the man himself often a blend of tedious and hilarious!

Spoilers for the final issue of The Nice House on the Lake Loooved this story, but it's been killing me this whole time thinking there's no way they clear this up in 12 issues, since every issue started with a flash forward from a time we haven't seen. I'm both relieved and sad when I saw this was only the end of "Cycle 1." Relief because, fuck yeah, Tynions long stories always deliver, the more the better, but the sadness comes from it being on DC and not something like Image because I have my doubts they'll let him finish it.
I honestly don't know if that's news or a spoiler, but I didn't know it going in, so I figured I'd give everyone else the same courtesy.

Finished On a Sunbeam, loved every bit of it. Tillie Walden is an incredible storyteller. I have complete faith in her Clementine series

Catching up on DC today and with still some of Dark Crisis to finish, it just feels like they’re in such a weird spot right now with no unified vision. You have the Flashpoint Beyond and JSA stuff which is John’s continuing Doomsday Clock, then unrelated Dark Crisis feels like a remnant of the 5G stuff that never happened, and then also unrelated here’s our new initiative called Dawn of DC which doesn’t seem to reference either of those things. And BTW, some of our biggest books are elseworlds with DCeased, Dark Knights of Steel, and Vampires. They really need some editorial guidance because while none of them are bad, it’s just so unfocused that the big books don’t really land because the status quo will change in 2 months or depending on the writer.
