So I dunno if anyone is following the X-Men 92 comic, but they're currently doing their version of Krakoa vs. Arrako, and I like how they play with the animated and comic continuity. First, using Akron as the main villain and instigator is an inspired choice, I feel. Also, they establish that mutants reborn after dying on Arrako get reborn different in unpredictable ways. So Beast gets killed by Deadpool in an episode of slapstick. They revive him, and what comes out? Dark Beast. I like that.
New Image series from Genevieve Valentine, Annie Wu, & Ming Doyle. I love Wu’s art and have been waiting to see her do more for a while, and Valentine’s Catwoman run some years ago was pretty underrated. I’m interested to see what these creators do together in a creator-owned context.
Unbelievably excited for the North/Coello announcement for Fantastic Four. Iban is one of my favorites at Marvel right now and deserved a big ongoing. Ryan writing "self-contained stories in the vein of '60s Star Trek, where they go down to a planet, find a weird thing, fix the weird thing, and move on" sounds like everything that I want from a FF book.
Another big order today. Paper Girls: Complete Story Sweet Tooth (which i've already read but was one of my favorites ever) Compendium Sweet Tooth: The Return I really got to stop myself from spending thousands of dollars building up a new collection after my decade long break lol. Almost bought the complete omnibus editions of Y:The Last Man, Ex-Machina, and Irredeemable all in one go too.
Finally got around to the first 2 issues of Public Domain and absolutely love it so far. Chip is so good.
I don’t know if he’s announced a length yet, but it definitely has a feel of something that’s just going to be a miniseries, so you’re pretty safe to just wait for the trade.
I love that Public Domain is really about the family. The business stuff is good and will probably continue to be quite compelling, but the actual focus is on this family and their baggage, individually and collectively. Loved the line from the wife about the artist father needing to care for his “creations.”
That's in Earth-616? I was confused for a second which universe Laura Kinney Wolverine is from because I've only seen her in the SpiderGwen crossover where Gwen-as-Wolverine extends the claws into her own face haha. Now that I've looked it up, I remember Gwen's Logan being kind of a douchebag
Totally agree about that X-Terminators book being my most anticipated. X-Factor by Leah is probably my favorite X book since Krakoa started, I love Laura as Wolverine, Boom Boom was awesome in New Mutants, Jubilee is a classic, and as relatively new X-Men reader, I’m not super familiar with Dazzler, but I know she’s very popular for a reason so I can’t wait.
Yep, 616. Logan in that main continuity has Laura as a kinda-clone-kinda-daughter, Daken as his hot bisexual disaster son, and Laura’s young clone Gabby as his adorable other daughter. It’s a nice lil clawed family, imo. The introduction of Laura (who first appeared in the X-Men: Evolution cartoon) into the 616 comics was… rough, lol. But, the X-23 series by Marjorie Liu was really good. Then, when Logan was dead for a bit, she became Wolverine in Tom Taylor’s All-New Wolverine, which was uneven but occasionally excellent; that’s where the annual with Gwen happened. She briefly got demoted to X-23 again when Logan returned, but they’ve currently got both sharing the Wolverine mantle. Logan’s in the Wolverine book and X-Force. Laura was in a few Hickman X-Men issues and the first year of Duggan’s X-Men, and will now be in this upcoming mini (which I think you’ll like). Daken was in the Leah Williams X-Factor and is now in Steve Orlando’s Marauders. Gabby is in my personal favorite, New Mutants by Vita Ayala. (I don’t know that you needed to know this much, but I couldn’t help myself! *snikt*)
Haha nah it's cool! Is this the one where burglars come into their apartment? I think I saw it in a tiktok or something. If that and the Gwen annual both came from it I might have to check it out!
It’s been forever, so I honestly don’t remember, lol, but they did live in an apartment, and that feels like the tone. The first arc with David Lopez on art is one of my favorite Wolverine arcs ever.
Man Flavor Girls is an absolutely great read so far. Highly recommend. also the most recent arc of New Mutants was amazing. Illyana’s magical girl transformation!!!!!!
AXE Judgment Day is weird, and I don’t know how anyone who didn’t read all of Kieron Gillen’s Eternals (including the one-shots) would vibe with it… but I think it’s mostly pretty good so far! Excited for Starfox to come into the mix. Amazing Spider-Man #902 is the seventh-and-a-half Wells/Romita issue… and I still love every single one! Such a great ride, the exact kinda high energy with heart that I want from modern Spidey.
I broke and bought the Y: The Last Man omnibus. It was 50% on Amazon and there was less than 20 in stock so figured i better jump on it now while it was at that price. It's usually $150 and I got it for $75.
I’m indifferent to AXE right now. I really didn’t like the Cap judgement scene in the last issue cause there’s a lot of leaps in logic that I couldn’t follow in it.
Totally missed the conceit of the new One Bad Day line being each villain’s version of the Killing Joke. I actually really liked the Riddler one once I realized the premise and that it is not a continuity story.
I thought the Steve thing mostly worked because he's ostensibly a moral paragon in the Marvel universe. It helps sell the stakes if even he gets a thumbs down, just because he took on a lofty ambition of inspiring America to be better (which very clearly hasn't happened, at all). Apparently Mark Russell is writing some Avengers issues where Clint has to prove he has more value than a random mailbox, so this manufactured Celestial clearly ain't playing nice; it's very much so a mythological asshole's test.
I just didn’t work for me because it made it too obvious that this will not be a fair judgement so now there’s gonna need to be some shenanigans to defeat the celestial in the end versus an actual fair judgement with interesting results. Like it could have been the Mutants are judged favorably and that saves humanity and they are seen in a better light. I have faith in Gillen so there’s a good chance that I will be pleasantly surprised by the end.
