  1. I got into the ATLA/TLOK comics a couple months ago. Pretty nice continuations for the most part.

Every time I'm at Barnes and Noble I browse the graphic novel section and it's so daunting not knowing where to start. Even with just the TV/film adaptations and characters I'm familiar with there's so much. I saw the Sandman Netflix thread earlier and was like wait wasn't that a comic book? It is.

Aside from maybe Spider-Gwen and Harley Quinn, I think I'm most interested in how Barbara becomes Batgirl post-Killing Joke, but I can never find the first issue of that run anymore. I'm not even sure if comics are one more thing I want to start collecting. Maybe I should utilize the public library, or get one of those online subscriptions.

The local library is a great resource. When I first started getting into comics it was a great way to try a lot of new things and find series/writers/characters I liked. Honestly there’s so many reboots and status quo changes that you can really just pick a character you like and jump in anywhere in trades.

  3. The library has a lot of comics in ebook format, including the Batgirl Returns, Batgirl of Burnside, and Beyond Burnside runs, but apparently my library card is expired haha...

I don’t know off hand what run “Batgirl Returns” is (if that’s the Gail Simone run, she has a trans woman in the supporting cast who people really liked, so that might be relevant to your interests). But, Batgirl of Burnside was awesome. One of my favorite DC runs in an ongoing title, a very important series for me early into my getting properly into comics as an adult.

I believe Beyond Burnside was the Rebirth stuff, which I wasn’t super into.

Gail's run is one of my favorite comics, period. That and Batwoman were perfect runs. New 52 slapped.

  8. That's exciting. Until I very recently watched BTAS I'd only seen Babs as Oracle in the Arkham and Injustice games. I don't really want to read earlier Batman stories that she just happens to be in.

That first Arrowverse season was kind of a mess, as CW shows often are. It's so far my only reference point for Kate Kane, though.

Like... the reason I'm annoyed is because I remember when this looked like it was going to be a slow-burning story about Harry and Peter and finally coming to terms with the actions and consequences of One More Day.

Except psych. Not only does this end with Peter still not knowing anything about One More Day, but they actually attempt to rejustify One More Day by giving Mephisto a reason for stealing the marriage beyond "for the evulz". And on top of that, not only is Kindred not Harry, but Harry was never not dead, the current Harry is a clone, and oh, by the way, he's dead now too. And so is everything you've ever really loved.

At first I thought it was kind of cool and interesting that they were bringing Sins Past into this, but now after all is said and done, this just means we've been on a giant fuck you quest to retcon Sins Past and make it irrelevant, because now not only are Sarah and Gabriel also fake, they're also dead for good. Which... who fucking cares?! Like, why even bring it up if you weren't going to have it lead to anything interesting?

The only good thing to come out of this, and believe me, I'm really grasping at straws here, is that giving Mephisto a reason to do what he did means there's a possibility for a future storyline where that plot point gets explored, except I don't really believe that, so fuck it. End rant.

I genuinely think some Marvel higher ups got spooked and pulled the plug on what Spencer actually had planned. So much of the run doesn’t make sense now that it’s finished.

Whoa. Nick Spencer is still writing comics? Did he just totally abandon Morning Glories?

Anyway, that dude is a real prick.

Don't let that stop you! It takes some of the beats, but doesn't come close to doing it justice. Read Elegy and get back to me.

Also, the covers for that run are seriously my favorite ever.

All Batwoman stuff New 52 and beyond has been excellent. Marguerite Bennet's run is great as well as her role in Tynion's Detective Comics.

Been catching up with several series lately. Should finish up the 3rd trade of Farmhand tonight, have you read it?

Also finished 2nd Immortal Hulk book recently too. Which one of that run is your favorite?

Farmhand was alright, not a favorite but enjoyable enough. I felt Immortal Hulk got weaker as it went along and they opened up the world to a whole bunch of characters I knew nothing about, but it was still always enjoyable. I liked the arc with the big fluffy yeti guy a lot, but I can't remember his name.

EDIT: Looking at trades, Hulk in Hell (3) and We Believe in Bruce Banner (6) were probably my favs

Man I'm loving Farmhand but mostly because of the art. Really think Rob Guillory may be one of my all time favorite artists. I really need to catch up and finish Chew soon I guess

I edited in the volume numbers on my last post fyi.

Yeah, I think me not really liking Chew is part of it. I kinda like Chew though, idk, it's love/hate

  24. Got my library card renewed. Started Gail Simone's Batgirl. Honestly, reading comic ebooks like this is not too far off from when I used to read manga scanlations way back when.

My only real issue with reading comics digitally is sometimes the impact of splash pages is diminished because of how it's formatted digitally
