My friends and I started a comic club and we’re reading Y The Last Man. I read the whole thing probably 10 years ago and I think it holds up so far. There’s definitely some choice language that dates it tho.
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/brian-michael-bendis-jinxworld-dark-horse-1234998039/ Neat. Glad Bendis is no longer tied down to a Big 2 company. Funny that he didn’t end up at Image, though I’m more and more cynical of their “best deal in comics” all the time, lol.
Had to go online to Midtown just to get the 5 FCBD books I wanted. Our local shop isn’t recognizing it, because they want to double up on books next May, but like….why. So dumb.
I don’t recall if @Kingjohn_654 is still around these days & don’t know if this brand of throwback all-ages superhero comic is up anyone else’s alley… But this comic by old school creators Roger Stern, Ron Frenz (who’s local to Pittsburgh & was at my shop for a signing), and Sal Buscema was fun. Featuring characters and ideas developed by Frenz & company owner Darin Henry (who’s apparently a television writer). It didn’t, like, reinvent the wheel or blow me away or anything. But, if you have nostalgia for Bronze Age superhero comics, and you happen to see it, worth looking at. I’m glad these creators have a place to still do their thing.
@Vivatoto finished Immortal Hulk Vol 1 and that was so good! Makes me excited to check out the new Cates run on Hulk in November.
Had fun making that Substack video I mentioned previously, which is out finally! I think this length and type of edit is what I'm going to aim for more going forward.
Dang, I haven’t read a comic with Stacey Lee interiors in forever (outside of when I reread Silk last year). This looks dope.
lol. I found X-Factor #1 in a dollar box and was happy to get that, along with 2-4 (as far as I could get in dollar comics before dang Apocalypse makes a couple issues too pricey, lol). Love those costumes. But, the actual writing pre-Simonson isn’t great! Still gotta do a proper read through Weezie & Walt’s run. Those couple issues of X-Men Legends they did recently were so good.
I guess it wouldn’t be as bad if it wasn’t sandwiched between great issues on NM and Uncanny. I also really hate the Jean retcon and those issues of FF & Avengers are bad too. Thankfully it’s only 5 issues pre-Simonson but yeah, just a really rough start. Gotta power through for Mutant Massacre though.
I've only fallen further and further behind on reading comics. But I am hopeful I can catch up at some point. Just now starting Death Metal haha. I am also considering a re-read of Scalped. I remember being super into that as I got the monthlies.
X-Factor has slowed down my Claremont read to a standstill. Even the first few Simonson issues are rough. I think I mostly just do not care for anyone on the team, but I’ve committed to reading it for the crossovers.
That’s dope. Didn’t Jen Bartel get to draw some, too? Almost makes me wanna properly get into Magic… but, like, I can barely afford the one expensive collectible hobby I have already (comics), lol.
Jen's were part of a premium product, part of a one time sale. Emma's is premium, but can be found in boosters, albeit deluxe ones. If you want to get into Magic for some of the artists, DON'T. You'll be paying out the ass for the cooler art.
Just saw a preview for the next issue of Spider-Man and this twist better be a swerve because if Kindred is Gwen fucking Stacy, I will rage quit the entire comic book industry.
