Ugh, Something Is Killing the Children is just too damn tremendous. Between that and Gideon Falls I feel like I'm watching two of my favorite writers make their horror masterpieces.
I don't think I knew Joker was gonna be part of the story. I get that this has been in the works forever, but like, how the heck is he gonna be here, on the heels of that Three Jokers nonsense & the Joker War storyline in the main book? Especially when I'm pretty sure this was initially gonna run alongside a monthly version of the main Batman book, lol. *sigh* That whining aside, I'm glad the only modern version of Batman comics I care about is finally scheduled to return. Should be a good series.
Y'know, this is an incredibly accurate assessment of Geoff Johns. One of the replies said, "Johns isn’t so much nostalgic for the Silver Age as nostalgic for nostalgia of the Silver Age," which... also feels like a damning observation about the superhero comics industry as a whole, lol. But, I'm a big fan of some Tom King & Bendis stuff, lol, so what do I know?
In my opinion, Tom Taylor is hands-down the best writer DC has right now. Everything he touches has been fantastic. I really wish they'd give him more of the reins on more "in-universe" stuff. His Suicide Squad run right now is probably my favorite thing coming out currently.
I dunno, part of me likes when the better mainstream writers get to just do their own thing along the margins instead of having to deal with continuity. Someone like Tom Taylor getting a flagship Big 2 book, where that's the book influencing others more than the other way around, could be good. But at the same time, if I were in those shoes, maybe I'd rather keep getting my own little corners to explore? As more of a Marvel fan, I'm curious what his Dark Ages story is gonna be like. The tease in that one FCBD issue was cool.
If you liked DCeased, you owe it to yourself to read more of his stuff. He *adores* the DC Universe and everything he writes (IMO) both honors all the continuity that came before it, while also pushing forward. I'm a total stan for him, but I think the direction he goes in would be the best direction for DC as a whole.
After a quick Google search, I've learned he wrote the Injustice books which at the very least had some cool ideas, so that's at least another book from him I've read lol. I'll add his Suicide Squad to the list of books I need to read once I find the time. Priority #1 for me right now is catching up on all the Dawn of X books since I dropped Excalibur, New Mutants, and Marauders a while back
This is still going on. Excellent content. Comixology has made all ‘Black Panther’ single issues free
You could honestly read his Suicide Squad run in a day (depending on how you *acquire* comics) I think he's only like 8 issues deep, saying this as someone who's also trying to catch up on the X-Men shit. Not so much with Injustice, he did like 150 issues of that lol
A short Swamp Thing story by Vita Ayala, Emma Ríos, & Jordie Bellaire? I legit might buy this anthology one-shot just for that one story, lol. Emma Ríos also has a short story in the upcoming Batman: Black & White relaunch.
Is it weird to read a comic book tie-in to a video game you've never played & have no attachment to? A comic by Mariko Tamaki & Babs Tarr sounds too good to pass up, lol.
Not as weird as reading a comic book based on a video game that was based on a, you guessed it, comic book
I'm very happy that it isn't overtaking the main universe, but really hope the ideas pop up again in a possible-future or alternate-Earth, it would seem a waste for all those potential stories to just evaporate :/
Agreed, as someone who has only gotten into comics in the last few years I was not ready to see all my favorite characters hang up their capes, but I am always down for alternate earth titles, those are generally fun as hell, even the not so great ones.
Wasn't "5G" already officially dead, or was there still some uncertainty? Anyways, as cynical as I was of that whole initiative based on the rumors surrounding it... John Ridley's Batman story, which is now being published next year as a seemingly standalone miniseries, with art by Nick Derington. So, that's cool at least. As long as good artists are making good comics, I'm happy.
Everyone assumed it was dead once DiDio was gone, cause it was rumored to be his baby and the reception towards 5G in general seemed.... lukewarm, at best... but I believe this is the first time DC has acknowledged that's it's officially not going to happen.
