All the buzz surrounding Cates' Venom has so me excited to read it. Loving the art in the Runaways book too! And yeah, White Knight looks really interesting for sure.
I got the first issue of Champions for free back on Free Comic Book Day and enjoyed it (my LCS had an exclusive cover for it or something). So I'm looking forward to reading more of it.
I've never liked Champions in execution as much as I should like a team featuring Miles Morales & Kamala Khan, 2 of Marvel's best characters. Plus, I like that the initial lineup had Cyclops, even if it was time displaced Cyclops in the IvX era. I'm hoping January's relaunch (keeping current writer Jim Zub) brings out the best of this concept. Would love to see Champions really nail a Teen Titans meets Legion of Superheroes feel, except for Marvel.
Okay so I’m through the wedding and the Mr Freeze arcs. The wedding was good but holy shit @ the aftermath so far. Tom knows his way around a monologue for sure. Just unreal. I love what he’s doing with this character and I’m mad at myself for falling so far behind.
The next arc, Tyrant Wing, is the best so far. Shit is going down like crazy. At this point its probably my favorite run of anything like ever
Got some new short boxes, did some late night comic sorting. Feels weird organizing piles of comics and realizing some of them I read over a year ago...lol. Think I'll try to get some reading done tomorrow.
Reread 5 issues of Ms Marvel I didn't remember 'til I read 'em. Read 7 issues I hadn't read. Still have 5 more to catch up. Dang it, me. I will say, after being behind for literally a year, it's been nice reminding myself how great this series is. Like, I intellectually remember, but now I emotionally remember. Over 50 issues, all written by G Willow Wilson & colored by Ian Herring, w/ a really strong rotating door of talented artists who are good at emotion, action, & personality. Easily a top 5 Marvel run this decade. Saladin Ahmed certainly has some big shoes to fill next year. I'm excited for a new take, but this run's blend of traditional Marvel superheroics, child-like simplicity & innocence, and deeper truths has been something special.
My collection is coming along nicely. It's been a minute since we all showed off our trades. Anyone else wanna share theirs?
Rereading Chip's Spectacular Spider-Man run today 'cause I feel like I lost the plot a little in the back half & wanna appreciate the full run better. ...man, I forgot how wordy some of these panels were at the start. Dang. I didn't mind 'cause, between the Kubert/Bellaire art, Chip's sense of humor, & the return to 616 Spidey feeling right, I was too content. But, initially, he definitely lacked restraint at times. Obligatory reminder that Bellaire is the best colorist in comics, though.
If I were ranking my favorite single issues of the year, I'm pretty sure Spectacular Spider-Man #310, written & illustrated by Chip Zdarsky, would have the top slot. Reread it to cap off my Zdarsky Spectacular reread, & it still really got to me. Speaking of Chip, I think Marvel Two-in-One is my favorite series of the year. Don't think I realized it while reading it, but looking back, it probably brought me the most consistent joy. And, it was often at the top of my reading pile.
I really loved that issue. It was a perfect way to end his run, which I still wish had lasted longer.
You gonna read Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, by Tom Taylor, writer of All-New Wolverine & the Injustice comics? Starts in I think a couple weeks. Looks like a really good replacement for Spectacular.
Anyways, 'cause it annoys me that my current top 10 comics of the year are Big 2, I'm gonna finally read Barrier, & then see if I can catch up on Paper Girls.
Definitely going to check it out. I think between that, the new Miles, and the new Superior series there will be a pretty good slate of Spidey comics. I’m also enjoying the new Spider-Gwen.
tomorrow has a decent amount of comics that I want but I’ll only stick to two this week most likely.(save some of those other ones for a dead week) I’m planning for Champions #1 and Killmonger #3. Future pick ups would be Marvel Adventures Spider-Man Across The Spider-verse, Spider-geddon and Tony Stark Iron Man #7. I’ve also did a quick read of Big Hero 6 and The Haunted Mansion since they were in Marvel Unlimited.
I think I'm done buying books for a while. I can a panic attack thinking about money the other night and just need to cut that out for a minute. On the flip side, I started reading Morrison's Animal Man and fell in love. What a goofy book. I was expecting something much different. The coyote issue was absolutely perfect.
