That's a bummer. So... Depending on whoever else is able to participate... Could you write a couple sentences on why someone should read a particular Aquaman book?
I think I could come up with something for tomorrow. I think I'd have to do Geoff Johns' book. Its the only thing I've really loved. I'm thinking of picking up Peter David's run, but wouldn't have it this week.
Cool. Let's plan on that, but then if someone else also wants to talk about Johns' run, I can find a way to format the post w/ both blurbs & multiple links. (I did write about Miles' series for Spider-Verse & link to 3 trades in a row, lol, so the formatting is flexible.) And, I'll be curious to how you like that when you read it. Did David's run include the 90s hook era, or nah? I really don't like David as a person (he hates the idea of God, & also Romani people), but man, he's written some great Spider-Man material over the years...
It is the hook era. If you want a good run down of the character and his eras, this guy does a great job. Love watching his videos.
I unfortunately haven’t read many Aquaman comics at all. I think I checked out the Rebirth series when it first launched but didn’t stick with it because there were like 800 titles.
For Rebirth I could do the Sejic run, which I believe was collected as Underworld. It’s a new starting point and puts the series in the best spot it’s been in in a long time.
@Tim The Wake would be an awesome story to include in here. Definitely gets the vibe of some Aquaman stories.
Those were awesome. Best the book had been in a while. @Tim I’ve read a lot of Aquaman in my day. I’ll look through my stuff and see if there is a collection that would work for these purposes.
Oh yeah, haven't read it yet but loved that art. If you could write something quick on that, I'd appreciate it. Good catch. Since I haven't really spent time w/ Aquaman yet but read The Wake when I first got back into comics, maybe I'll do that one. Vol 3 was the Justice League crossover, right? If @Henry is still good to say something about Johns run as a whole, maybe you could write some specific thoughts on that story?
You're always great w/ the older DC stuff, so if you see something you wanna contribute, I'd definitely love that.
lol. I do genuinely love Namor, though I don't think I've ever had an urge to read one of his solo comics. I just love any time he shows up. Hopefully Zdarsky's Invaders series is good.
The new Underwinter graphic novel, Queen of Spirits, was excellent. I feel like we're starting to get a glimpse of the master plan.
Does DC normally not release anything the week of Christmas? Just noticed they seem to be saving everything for January
I spent 70$ at the comic store today and Man Eaters is literally the only thing I have to pick up next week. I don’t recall having a day like that since I started picking up.
need to pick up Champions and Spider-geddon for sure tomorrow. I am also considering getting the Shuri and Killmonger mini-series's.
Any of y'all gonna do any Christmas reading? When I get a chance between last minute shopping & candlelight service, I'll be reading my favorite Christmas comics: Spider-Man's Tangled Web #21 (RIP Darwyn Cooke) Hawkeye #6 & #17 The "Good Boy" story from Batman Annual #1
