Maybe someday. There's just SO MUCH good comic content to choose from, lol. Like, I have no aversion to L&K and know it's good, but there's so much I'd wanna invest time & money in first that I don't know if I'll ever get to it, you know?
Most of DC's New Age of Heroes or whatever has felt so immediately forgettable to me, but what I've read of this blatant Fantastic Four ripoff is great. Speaking of the Big 2 ripping each other off, after this F4 analogue and that Hulk analogue (Damage?), I like that Marvel's Champions relaunch in January has a little bit of a Legion of Superheroes vibe, lol. I just wish they'd replaced time-displaced Cyclops with a couple established young mutants, like Quentin Quire or whatever. But otherwise, I dig it. After Mark Waid's inability to write kids and the messy, hard to follow torch-passing to Jim Zub, I'm glad Zub's getting a new chance to hit the ground running with this franchise.
Halloween comicfest was today! Grabbed a few of the freebies and bought my kids some comics. Got a Frozen/Elsa comic for my daughter. Got a Scooby Doo crossover with DC comics for my son. Good times. Anyone go today?
I went to Halloween Comicfest today. Grabbed the free Ms. Marvel, Spidey, Batman, and Thor, but this shop didn’t have the Over the Garden Wall, Archie, or Turtles unfortunately.
Reading through Geoff Johns' Flash right now. Its at the part with the Identity Crisis tie-ins reminding me how cringy it is. Also has a few issues with a blind Wonder Woman. This timeframe of DC comics is just generally really fucking weird.
I planned to start with Waid’s run first and I read vol 1 and it’s not really for me. I might continue it eventually. I’m not too big on the older classics.
Waid's didn't do anything for me. The Morrison one didn't either. Johns had a pretty great run though. I've loved his Flash and Rucka's Wonder Woman runs.
I wouldn't say you need to read one before the other. I found Waid a little bit too dialog heavy. Some of it gives you insight into villains, but I don't think it is crucial at all. Johns run does a good job of getting you acquainted with everyone.
Still the worst Spider-Man story ever. Between this and the One More Day mess that was imposed on the end of the JMS run, it's wild how much the obsession with not "aging" Peter is the biggest threat to good Spider-Man stories. Meanwhile, easily the two best versions of Spider-Man this decade? Renew Your Vows, where Peter gets to be a family man, and Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man, where we follow a new Spider-Man, Miles. Heck, the Worldwide stuff was probably the best stuff in Slott's decade-long tenure on the character (outside of the original Renew Your Vows mini). I know Big 2 comics thrive off the illusion of progress, and unlike many people, I personally view that as a strength, not a weakness. But, every once in a while, we can change our mind on what's considered true status quo. Dick Grayson was Robin for what, almost 50 years? But, for close to 30, the center has been Nightwing (w/ Batman & Grayson as the exceptions, & Robin only in flashback). Married Peter & young Miles could be the same way. Anyways, I live in Western PA, and the world is awful, and having strong opinions on superheroes is fun, have a blessed day, y'all.
The best horror series in comics is back just for Halloween been a while since I been in this thread, finally caught up on my monthlies. gonna break out some spooky comics for today. this one in particular!
I could've read something spooky today (thought about My Pretty Vampire, or some late 80s Spider-Man like Kraven's Last Hunt or Torment)... Instead, I just revisited some Morrison New X-Men. Man, that series was good. (When it was good. I only own the first 2/3, so I've never read the part where it apparently goes off the rails, lol.) The visuals, characters, tone, etc. So good. Too bad Morrison didn't do more Marvel stuff.
