Dude, I'm just a little bit ahead of you reading through the series for the first time. It was crazzzzy.
Scott Aukerman's issue of X-Men Black was a lot of fun. I hope he keeps writing, would love to see him write an entire arc of something/anything.
A little late, but the Venom Further Reading post is up in that thread. Anyways, man, I'm so behind on most of my reading. I don't think I've read Ms Marvel or Paper Girls in like a year, but I don't wanna drop either title since I've been pulling 'em from the start. Gonna just have to set a day aside come holiday season to catch up.
I bought a thing just because I wanted to support my fave person ever. I can now say this is my first comic.
If you wanna get into monthly comics, a new ongoing Miles Morales: Spider-Man series starts in December. Written by Saladin Ahmed, who is really good.
hey this thread is cool. i've been reading a ton of (pirated) 2000s classics since this summer. its been cool. im making my way through modern x men now. started as a nostalgia trip with USM which i read most of in like 2007 or something and ive been thru other classics like post-BND ASM and bendis and brubaker daredevil and morrison's batman and hickman's avengers titles which i think might still be my favorite of the whole bunch. almost done with morrison's new x men en route to the revolutionary cyclops stories which seem like they were written for me so im excited. still have spent $0 on comics as an adult though lol. maybe i'll start buying like one trade a month just cherrypicking my favorite arcs from all these titles
yeah i'm worried what will happen when i run out of 2000s classics. those are mostly just things i've heard about organically and haven't even sought out recommendations yet really so i'm sure i'll find some more stuff to love when i go looking
Come here and ask us. We love giving recs. For example, idk exactly where you are in “revolutionary Cyclops stories, but after Avengers vs X-Men, read Bendis’ All-New X-Men and his Uncanny X-Men trades. Alternate between the two since they were published simultaneously.
i'm starting with Morrison's run on New X-Men, i'm almost done with it. i'm going the long route trying to get the full picture of what made Cyclops that way and my understanding is New X-Men is the beginning of 'modern' X-Men and i liked Morrison's Batman so it seemed like a good spot. I was planning on going through Whedon, Fraction, and Gillen's Uncanny runs next. But you've made me realize I don't know where AvX and other events, and Bendis' runs, fit in with those, so I'll need some help there.
Here are the essentials, so you have a guide, and fill in the gaps how you see fit: -Grant Morrison’s New X-Men -Astonishing X-Men by Joss Wheedon -House of M -X-Men Messiah Complex -Messiah War -Second Coming -Schism -Jason Aaron’s Wolverine and the X-Men, Rick Remender’s Uncanny X-Force, and Kieron Gillen’s Uncanny X-Men run simultaneously -Avengers vs X-Men - Bendis’ All-New and Uncanny X-Men run sinultaneously -Brian Wood’s X-Men (but it’s not very good) - Battle of the Atom - Extrordinary X-Men by Jeff Lemire, Uncanny X-Men by Cullen Bunn, and All-New X-Men by Dennis Hopeless The main Uncanny series trades, as well as X-Men (or X-Men Legacy) trades in between House of M and Schism. And the X-Force books from that era are dumb, but they tie into Messiah War. Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender if fantastic though. As far as Wolverine’s solo stuff X-23, Daken, and the just-ok Astonishing X-Men arcs, that’s up to you. I found this site, which has an excellent reading order: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.co...ing-order-guide-modern-marvel-comics-era/amp/
@Wharf Rat read Sheriff of Babylon if you’re looking for something outside the realm of superhero stuff. That seems like it’d be extremely your shit.
it’s a nice club for sure. dude at the comic store was just so friendly and energized about talking comics. It was nice. that’s why I’m trying to read everything miles before his new monthly series. I’m fully invested in him.
I don't have any from Derek and would like to add more. Also secretly looking for new books for myself.
Sorry, no Grateful Dead communist comic recs. But yeah, Hickman's Avengers (through Secret Wars) rules. Did you read his Fantastic Four run first? It's also great. I personally love the Bendis run of Uncanny X-Men, centered on Cyclops. I know people's mileage vary w/ Bendis' writing, and also with modern X-Men. I'm not into his All-New X-Men run or the Battle Of The Atom crossover. But just the Uncanny X-Men run is really good imo. The mutant persecution analogy always breaks down, but I liked following Scott's perspective.
